one of the best rock voices of all time. Fun fact - saw them in concert in early 90's. A bunch of drunk meatheads in the front row (and not far from me) were throwing stuff at a member of the opening band, homophobic slurs, spitting on him. Cornell and Kim Thayil come out from side of the stage - Cornell tries to jump into the crowd to fight all 3 or 4 of them. Thayil grabs the mic and lets them know that if they don't knock it off they'll get their asses kicked and there will be no show. That turned a few thousand people against 4 idiots in a hurry. Always thought that was kind of a cool Big Brothers vs the bully moment.

(video above is from Temple of the Dog concert at the Moore Theatre in Seattle, 1990.) Say Hello 2 Heaven is a tribute to Andy Wood.

I heard his interview with Marc Maron on his podcast show not long ago. Seemed like a real sincere, humorous, not-full-of-himself guy. Not a "rock star" personality at all. Really surprised that he died of his own hand. Based only on that short interview it seemed like he really had his sh*t together but you never really know, do you?

Very sad. Hard to fathom.
