Reports have been confirmed via Twitter that the Beavs have obtained another Class of 2018 commitment. Australian Jasmine (Jazz) Simmons tweeted the news below. She has been described as a strong rebounding 5'11" guard who can take the ball to the rack and finish through contact. She was a member of Australia's U-17 world championship team in 2016 that knocked off the heavily-favored US team by 13 points in the semifinals.
Simmons joins 6'9" center Andrea Aquino and 5'9" guard Katie Mayhue among known Class of 2018 commitments for the Beavs. In addition, there appears to be one more Class of 2018 commit for the Beavs who has yet to make her recent commitment public. When that verbal commitment goes public, you can count on reading about it in this forum as well.
Go Beavs! Winning is contagious and leads to this kind of great news.

Looks like a point guard to me. May need to govern her energy to get a full 20 minutes of D1 BKB.

Looks like Scott Rueck is going to address the issue of having "jitterbug quick" guards in the coming years (one of our weaknesses, I believe). Welcome Jazz! We also are apparently sending one of our own that way as well - Ruth Hamblin headed back down under for 2017/2018: wnbl.com.au/adelaide_news/mac-adelaide-lightning-sign-ruth-hamblin/Go Beavs!

Listed as a Forward, she averaged 11P/8R/4A in that tournament. She was the 2nd leading scorer and led in the other two categories. The team beat USA (which featured a bunch of names from Hoopgurlz) and smoked Italy in the finals 62-38.
So, yeah, she was the best player on the best team in the U17 World Championship.

What I liked most about her film are three athletic skills that indicate, at least to me, that the Beavs have signed a good one.
(1) Her mid-court speed, and her foul line to foul line speed; (2) Her ability to dish smoothly on the run; (3) The strength of her left leg release (and the height it creates) on a full-speed break - this gives her a vertical than none of the 2017 Beavs (except Sydney) possess.
Impossible to say too much about her game in general, but I sure like the physical attributes she brings to the floor....
On a side note - has anyone heard of her before? Aware of any trip she has made to OSU? Whatever the case, it will be great to learn more about her....

beavers hoops fan - in the first post in this thread you say: "In addition, there appears to be one more Class of 2018 commit for the Beavs who has yet to make her recent commitment public. When that verbal commitment goes public, you can count on reading about it in this forum as well." Why do you write this? And, assuming you have a particular player in mind, who are you referring to? Thanks....

It'll be a nice change from Perth. Perth looks like a nice city but incredibly isolated from the rest of the country over on the west coast. The travelling had to be a major pain.

And in case you were wondering about the level of competition in these tournaments . . .
The USA team that Australia beat featured four of Hoopgurlz' top 5 recruits for 2018, and that doesn't account for all the five-star girls on that team.
