Sam G pitching in the 5th. No runs so far. Looking pretty good. A 2 out double in the 2nd and a 2 out triple in the 3rd. A 2 out walk in the 4th
M's up 1-0.

Sam done for the night pulled to start the 6th. 75 pitches, 47 strikes and can only win or take a ND up 4-0.

And, as expected, he won't get the win because the Mariners bullpen is trash. Year, after year, after year. Worst franchise in baseball.

As a Mariner fan I can tell you I'm not surprised about the stupid decision to take him out far too early

As a Mariner fan I can tell you I'm not surprised about the stupid decision to take him out far too early It's kind of standard practice these days - pull a first-time starter after 5 innings hoping to get him a "W" in his first start. Not saying I agree with it, but it's not uncommon.

As a Mariner fan I can tell you I'm not surprised about the stupid decision to take him out far too early He was on a pitch count I believe, since he was long reliever before this, IIRC they were hoping to get 4 innings out of him, so the 5 and no runs was a huge bonus. GREAT start y Sam! Congrats! Too bad the stinky bullpen couldn't hold the win for him, but at least the M's won in the end, and hopefully this buys Sammy G at least another couple starts
