My memory is getting spotty. Maybe it's the half bottle of wine I have drank tonight. Anyway, I know Karl made the USA World Championship team one year - maybe 1991. I last talked with him after a race in Portland, 1994? Anyway, he was working full-time and still trying to be an elite athlete. It may have been his last race.

How did Karl Van Calcar manage to be a five-time All-American for the Beavers from 1985-88? In different sports? Different AA lists?
(I showed up at OSU in 1987, so I should have better grasp on the situation, but I will claim to have been still figuring out which side was up that year :-).
