I attended Saturday and Sunday. Hallock has continued to improve and McNairy has made huge strides since high school. Hallock will qualify for the NCAA meet in Eugene (and also maybe the US National Championships, also in Eugene).
There is some construction going on at the track complex, but I'm not sure what this phase will entail. I know there is a hammer throw area in the northeast quadrant of the area. There is also decorative concrete and concrete pillars on the north side of the track. It's called the distance pavilion but I have not seen any sketches to see what the finished product will look like. In addition there has been a fair amount of underground work completed.
On Sunday some (most?) of the UO team showed up to support their guys. Our team was there both days lending support. I mention the UO team because, as a track geek, I notice the Olympians and likely future ones (Devin Allen, Deajah Stevens, Hannah Cunliffe, Sasha Wallace, Ariana Washington). Clayton Murphy was also there and sitting with the Ducks. Murphy attended University of Akron, gave up his remaining eligibility last summer and won the bronze at Rio in the 800.
Some notes and thoughts regarding our team: Kristine Width raced last weekend (4/28) and her face showed a lot of pain. This weekend she was in a boot and with crutches. Alba Villaronga was wearing a boot. Holly Cavalluzzo was not wearing a boot but I don't think she's able to run seriously. Kinsey Gomez ran 4/28 and is now national class. She transferred for her final year to Idaho.
We hired a new throws coach for this academic year. My throw knowledge is close to zero, but saying that, it seems like our gals are making significant improvements.
The only disappointment for me this weekend was there were not many competitors. No one from Arizona. One guy from ASU. No one from Stanford. Only one guy from Cal and one from UW. These schools usually have several multi athletes.
