I don't follow Beavers in the pros too much. That being said, I see a lot of great highlights from Conforto on Twitter and wonder why there seems to be a lack of him being the full time starter. To those of you in the know, why is that?

The Mets are referred to as the "Mess" for a reason.

To be fair (I can't believe I'm actually defending the Mets) - MC was pretty bad last season. Hit .220, struck out about 1/3 of the time and got sent down to AAA.
They are carrying 3 big money contracts in the OF - Cespedes $22M, Jay Bruce $15M and Granderson $13M. Bruce and Granderson are FA's at the end of the year so they could be trade deadline candidates to a contender if the Mets are out of the race (likely). Should become less crowded soon. In the meantime, Granderson is hitting .137 and Cespedes is hurt and out a few more weeks I believe..

Good explanation - Agree with your thinking, other than using the phrase "so they could be trade deadline candidates" in the same sentence as "Granderson". He might be a great guy, but at 36 years and .137 it's doubtful any contender would consider acquiring him.

Granderson hit 30 HRs last year, and has been a well above average offensive player for a decade. He's not going to hit .137 all season, but he certainly may be showing signs of age-related decline. If he hasn't completely fallen off the cliff, he'll have at least minimal trade value at the deadline.

Granderson could rebound and have career numbers the next few years like big pape (wink, wink)

The other part of this is that Conforto is still learning how to hit MLB Left Handed Pitchers well. When he does sit it is usually the matchup of the LHP.
I now have him on my Fantasy Team.... so I get to see his stat line each day. With Cespedas hurt I think he will be playing every day... because he is also very hot right now as well.

I hear what you're saying - I actually thought that as I typed it, but as Kersting said - I doubt he's still at .137 at the deadline and there's no shortage of teams who 1) talk themselves into believing they are contenders/buyers at the deadline (see Trailblazers, Portland) and 2) think they can fix a guy, even at 36 yrs old. I believe he still plays all 3 OF positions and that's always a plus as well. Anyhow, here's hoping MC keeps hitting so he can make the decision that much easier to lock him into the starting lineup.

Remember, MC is an uber cheap 4th outfielder, still stuck in the 4 year zone where he is making less than a 5 year 12th man in the bullpen, despite his performance. Given his performance, if the Mets can dump one of those three big contracts by the trade deadline, they will do it in a heartbeat, especially since they seem to be taking themselves out of the playoff race early this season.

Elliot Surrey (LHP) gave up three hits over seven innings in game 2. He is currently playing single-A ball for the AquaSox. In game 5, Andrew Morales (RHP) pitched on two days' rest and gave up three hits over 4 1/3. Morales is now playing double-A ball for the Cardinals. Evan Manarino (LHP) came in after Morales and went 3 1/3. Manarino is now playing single-A ball for the Stockton Ports. Surrey came back on one day's rest to get the save.
