I have seen all the home games and half of the road games. take any 5 or 6 game stretch and just look at the team on the field and how the play. without knowing their ranking ,not many people would come away thinking that's the #1 team in the nation. I would believe they were a top 20 team. since the ranking doesn't mean much I am concerned about how this team is playing. we don't put teams away, we let pitchers that we should tear up stay in games which keeps us from exposing the other team's pen. our hitting has slumped but even more troubling is that approach at the plate has taken a turn. were back to the old habit of getting into hitters counts and letting the pitcher back out of them without doing any damage. we have 2 trusty starter and a questionable bullpen. if drew is healthy, we have got to get him in the rotation. the more innings we get out of the starter the less innings for the bullpen. Gundy was an exception but most championship teams need an arm or two out of the pen who can strike a batter out on demand. defensively. we make some bonehead plays. the physical errors you can live with, but sometimes it looks like a lack of concentration or lack of baseball sense. we have beaten most of the teams we have played, so by default we are the #1 team. i'd rather see us at a top 10 team that is building momentum and is equipped for a deep run in Omaha.

Agreed that if Drew is healthy he should be in rotation - and why not? But as far as eye test and not putting teams away, etc. I gotta wonder, which D1 team is better in that regard? Which team is having a stronger season? Give me a name. Which team is the REAL #1 team that is so dominant that its warts are simply irrelevant? Clemson? Louisville? NC? Make a case.

Couldn't disagree more. If the team didn't warrant their National ranking, Pat Casey would tell you that. I've not heard him at any time this season try to minimize the recognition. He does however talk about how tough the PAC 12 is from top to bottom. We saw proof of that today.

All just guessing in the wind until the first elimination series. Jake T. will shut up the troylet bats in his turn today.
Would like to see him be the game 1 guy when it comes down to it. Winning the opener is a luxury so use it. And yes plug Drew Rasmussen in soon. Luke Heimlich for all the china.

Speaking of the eye test, USC has some pretty well put together athletes compared to our guys.

I think we are playing like a No. 1 Team in the country in that we don't ever give up and we are always fighting until the bitter end. Do I wish we would score a touchdown every once in awhile, hell yes! Do I wish we would score a run every inning, hell yes again. Defense wins Championships! Bottom line! Our pitching is the BEST in the Nation for a reason.... Yeskie! I personally like Thompson as the Sunday guy.. When we win the first two games of the series, then he puts the nail in the coffin! When we happen to be 1-1 in the series, then he makes sure that we get the Series W! Jake probably should be pitcher of the year in the PAC-12, but Heimlich will probably win it since his ERA is a tad lower. Go Beavs! Get the Series Win today!

My eyeball test is winning games - which we've done 89.2% of the time.

Always with the negative vibes Moriarity!
So we lost a game, so what? That's baseball. Hike up your big boy pants and get on with it. And quit whining. It's very unbecoming. We rock, and will continue to rock, all the way to Omaha.

I'm disappointed that no one has called him a Beaver hater, a suck trolling our board, loser, and/or other. This board is losing its edge... (Sarcasm intended)

My final thought (stat) on "eye-test" baloney:
The records of the Top 6 RPI teams vs. top 50 teams...no names mentioned (but Beavers are listed first):
10-0 16-5 14-10 7-8 15-7 11-9
How's that for an EYE Chart ??

We play fundamentally better baseball than our opponents. Baseball is a quirky sport, the biggest, fastest, and strongest don't always win... it is the team that executes the fundamentals that gets to dogpile more often than not.
