They are in a free fall. The conference needs them to win. Doesn't help to have a high RPI team do a face plant 2/3 of they way into the season. Stanford's been playing really well lately. I saw them as the third best team in the conference until now. They are firmly cemented as the 2nd best team in the conference. And....go Scum Devils....beat the schmucks!

Utah....Utah is a good baseball team. Swept by UW and OS but other than that a solid season. The remainder of the UA - Stanford series is pretty important for both teams. Pac 12 teams Cal through Oregon are all actually good teams and the standings will be very different in the end. Personally I think Cal drops vs their upcoming schedule and Utah rises. Lots of ball to play.

Lots of ball to play. Utah got swept by Oregon State and Corvallis and Washington in Seattle, but they lost each series by a combined six runs. They also dropped the series at Sunken Diamond by a combined two runs. The Utes' schedule was stacked up front. Four of the first six series on the road. After returning from Tucson, they only leave the state of Utah once for a three game set in Jackie Robinson Stadium. Going 10-7 against the 104th best non-conference slate does the Utes no favors either. Good team. Bad schedule. The Wildcats have the #1 non-conference RPI (#10 in overall RPI). The Beavers' non-conference RPI is #2 (#1 overall). Stanford's non-conference RPI is #14 (#18 overall). Agree that Arizona losses generally hurt the conference, but they hurt less to Stanford than anyone else. As long as Arizona does not get swept, they are likely to still be the second-best RPI team in the conference with their #1 overall non-conference RPI (18-3 record against the #4 non-conference SOS). But their resume will look a lot worse as a team with a losing conference record.

They only have 15 games left (including the game today). They need to go at least 10-5 to realistically have a prayer.
