When a returning freshman AA is your weak link you are in general pretty good 'pretty good', but not good enough to win a natty. Face it, 1-1/3 innings and 7 hits today is an absolute failed start. As was his start (though not this bad) against Ohio State 2/24 (a loss, I was there in Surprise AZ., and he was far from being 'sharp'), and April 1 v Stanford, 3 ip, 6 hits, 5 ER. Scorch me for pointing out a weak link if you wish...but a weak link it is, none the less. Returning AA freshman is in the past. April 22, 2017 is now and matters far more. Natty? Though many on this board will jump in to disagree, we're far from a "natty team" on the offensive side. If you want to point out weak links you can go thru several weak bats, poor execution of small ball and situational hitting. People can make all the excuses about how the close games will toughen us up. We've won, but we're seriously offensively challeneged at times and very inconsistent. The games are close because the pitching has been outstanding enough to cover up the at times inept offense. When the weather turns you're not winning too many post season games with 4 or less runs. Fehmel isn't the guy who's going to determine if we are Omaha bound, or how we do once there.

On a positive note, it is good to see Gambrell pitching decently. He is a piece of the present, but he is a huge piece of the next couple of years.

You lost all credibility when you said natty. In other words, the factual portions of the post (the 3 baseball games cited, 2/24, 4/1 and 4/22) mean nothing, due to an arbitrary criteria. That seems a little weird to me. But, in any event, what I was referring to was a National Championship.

Jelly Legs. A number of the beavs have jelly legs. I heard Mike Parker say it. Too many carbs in the pregame meal.

Not to be unkind, but the 3 worst starts this season for the Beavers have all been with Fehmel on the mound. If Drew can work his way into full recovery by the middle of May, the Beavers will hopefully have a rotation of Heimlich, Thompson, Rasmussen - in no particular order (though Luke seems very well established as the Friday night guy). Fehmel and Tweedt are great candidates for Tue. starts or weekend long-relief. Late inning bullpen in good shape. With that scenario, the Beavers are a legitimate post season/Omaha threat. Which begs the question -- is he hurt?

In Surprise where Fehmel went out for the fifth and probably shouldn't have but the staff was putting out there what they thought was their best option? He would be a starter on Coastal Carolinas championship team and Fehmel plays much tougher comp every weekend We can sit here and b!txh because he got knocked around the yard. But walks? How about defensive alignment turns a base hit into an out. How about a base hit to give a guy a rest between innings. If we think Fehmel is what will hold this team down long term I tend not to agree.

The great factor is (and this is one of the most the wonderful things about the ol' ballgame), tomorrow is a brand new game. Thompson might be absolutely dealing. Bats might be humming. Sun will be shining...there is a road series to be won!

Larnach, Cary, Donahue someone needs to step up. I like where our staff is at plenty of it's to throw tomorrow.

Just concentrate on one game at a time. A cautionary tale--In HS I was on an excellent wrestling team. Based on our strong show at regionals, we were picked by the Washington Wrestling News to win the state 1A title. Upon hearing this, several teammates started designing our State Championship patch before we even showed up at the tournament. But then our best wrestler (Mike Dillenburg, who later wrestled at OSU) was hurt in his first match and was out of the tournament, a couple of our high seeds were upset, and we ended up about 20th. But we did have a great championship patch design, though...
