It's a pretty poor article. Far less information than you get by reading the January article in the local papers. They need to improve their coverage of WBB. FYI... I found a video of a Natrona County game from two years ago. She was a freshman and seemed to be the first one off the bench. She first appears at about the 17:30 mark of the video. She gets a lot of playing time but mostly is posted on the perimeter...used much like we've used Kat Tudor. She misses a bunch of shots early on, but does better in the 2nd half. In the last couple minutes they have her bringing the ball up the court and she looks pretty good doing it. She's clearly very athletic and has nice long arms. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a video from when she was a soph or junior (last year). I'm hoping to attend one of her South Albany games next season.

When you go next Fall/Winter it'll be difficult to judge her true D1 talent level. No offense to anyone who may have daughters or granddaughters that play 5A girl's hoops, but it is atrocious! I went to about a dozen 5A games, including playoffs up to the semis. I was unpleasantly surprised by the overall play. D1 talent, like the Goodman girl, stands out like a sore thumb yet it's hard to extraplolate just how good she'd be with other talented players around her.

If so, what was your sense of her? Is she in the same class as Goodman? Understand hard to extrapolate what that all means at the next level, but curious if there is a scouting report to be had here on Mayhue...... Go Beavs!

So . . . how did Scott evaluate Katie? He found her in Casper Wyoming as a sophomore (~15 yrs old) and somehow projected that in three years she'll be a Pac-12 talent and is worth locking up with a schollie offer. I can see how he glommed onto Andrea Aquino - 6'9" is easy to project into D1 ball. But to find a girl in Casper WY, playing in one of the smallest talent pools in the country, and at a less-than-imposing 5' 9" . . . she had to show him something really, really special. The tidbits I've heard so far suggest that she is a wonderful and talented girl . . . but a lot of wonderful, talented girls go unrecruited. My curiosity is killing me . . .

She was head and shoulders over her teammates. Silverton was small, plays very aggressively, and better as a team... but, nothing close to a D1 player. If I remember correctly Katie might have scored half or more of SA's points. She rebounds well. You can tell she's a coaches kid. She is very fundamentally sound, not a superior ball handler, and will definitely benefit from college level strength/conditioning program. It was easier to evaluate "our" current Katie as she played against very good competition and with very good teammates. We'll see her development this summer and HS season, but right now I'd say she's "a poor man's version" of Katie Mc with tremendous upside. I will say I heard Scott got info/tip on her from a WT connection. Who knows if that is true, but I'm sure SR has plenty of his own connections that gave him a heads up on a possible player.

D1 talent, like the Goodman girl, stands out like a sore thumb yet it's hard to extraplolate just how good she'd be with other talented players around her. I've watched the 5A girls tourney a few times recently. Mercedes (always forget her last name) and Lexie Bando had some great battles. It was clear to me that Mercedes had little competition at that level, but while she was the best player on the floor each time out, I never saw anything that made me feel that she would be the #1 recruit in the nation. Lexie actually impressed me more as an elite player at that time, but you can't coach 6'6"! Mercedes went to Tennessee, and after two frustrating years filled with injury and adjustment, she emerged to be one of the better players in the SEC. Lexie has had a nice career helping the resurgence of the duck program. I love watching that kid play. My guess is that Aleah is going to be a good player for us, as much based on her AAU performances. I think that Katie will fit nicely as well. I saw Coach Rueck at church last Sunday and thanked him for the way that he runs his program and what he has built. He talked about a "type" of young woman" - great player and great human being - he looks for. Both of these girls fit his criteria. Neither may end up being stars at the D1 level, but both have a chance to be...and you know they're gonna get coached up!
