We're definitely going to play faster next year but I'm not sure I agree with his premise. If the roster lacks knock down shooters or a true facilitator, shouldn't we be trying to limit our offensive possessions and shorten the game as much as possible? Seems kind of like saying if you have a bad quarterback you should pass more so that he gets more yards. Simply playing faster isn't going to help our offense efficiency enough to be a good offense.
What will help (and he does mention this) is simply getting several more good players and having some of our young guys improve. Stevie's efficiency wasn't down because we played slow; his efficiency was down because he was forced to be a shot creator unlike his freshman year. Defenses keyed in on him because he and Drew were the only capable scorers on the team and there wasn't a GP2 or Tres to make them pay. I like Stevie a lot but he's not going to be a great off the dribbler scorer. He's best used off the ball -- Tres being back, Jaquori improving, and finding other guys to handle and score the ball will all be of great benefit to him.
Along the same lines, the defense will improve just by having more bodies. The second half of the year we basically only played 7 players (with only Drew being an especially gifted defender). More rest, more strength, and more experience is what we need there -- again, that should be taken care of.
So I think we'll play faster. Closer to what we were in 2015-16 but based on Tinkle's track record I don't think we're ever going to be an up-tempo offense.

Can he sweat anymore than last year? Coach Tinkle lost five pounds every game last year pacing the sidelines, yelling instructions on every pass. That was in a set offense. I think an up-tempo game would be the end of him.

The team should be WAY more balanced offensively this year, whatever the pace. The last half of his freshman year Tres was the leading scorer on the team, not GP2. It'll be nice to have him coming back. I hope there will be no more unfortunate injuries. Stevie and Drew will have a lot more opportunity this year because teams won't be able to focus on them. Jaquori and Manuel are both capable scorers (I really think Jaquori in particular was playing tentative his first season, we'll see improvement from him).... and who know what the addition of Stevie's brother will add to the firepower capabilities. We'll now have recruited scholarship players with Pac 12 playing experience (with the exception of the younger Thompson brother) as the first 7-9 players off the bench, last year it was 2 for much of the season. It potentially could be night and day. I'm not saying they're gonna be great, but they should be much more capable this year, and the playing style may differ because of that.
