Wow! The spatial aspects of that play, particularly the flight of the ball, are remarkably similar to Conforto's most famous throw as a Beav.

Wasn't the "informed opinion" on Conforto when he was still a prospect that he lacked the arm to play LF?

Wasn't the "informed opinion" on Conforto when he was still a prospect that he lacked the arm to play LF? Some "tools" can outweigh others and get you PT. Then others can be showcased. He doesn't have what scouts would call a top level arm, but the dude has worked and improved... he belongs

Yup, I agree with ricke71, pretty similar, and I never get tired of seeing the vid of that punk Payne getting hosed at the plate. Now if that clown Collins would just give Mikey some more PT, he'd really flourish. Hopefully the Mets will move Bruce at the end of the season or before and Mike gets everyday duties.

Wasn't the "informed opinion" on Conforto when he was still a prospect that he lacked the arm to play LF? The Mets coaches really worked with him to improve his arm strength...<sarcasm off> That is what Terry Collins attributed his improved throws. we all knew MC had enough to get it done. It's almost like he is deking the 3B coaches. He shows just enough to get the out. But not enough to throw up red lights. I'll never forget MC throwing out (several) runners at the plate his last year. Then Miss State running on him in the CWS. Like they didn't even do a scouting report

I have a hard time deciding which 'look on the face' I like best,"punk Payne" accentuated by the ball spike ...or the sheer bewilderment on Ferderoff immediately after the WS2007 D Barney relay to Canham - I suppose the latter, given the setting. Those two plays, plus the Wong DP turn in Omaha are my three all time favorite Beaver baseball moments.

Those two plays, plus the Wong DP turn in Omaha are my three all time favorite Beaver baseball moments. My all-time favorite play at the plate. May 26, 2012: Conforto makes a shoestring catch on then run and then a perfect one hop throw to Gorton guns down that a-hole Payne at the plate. DP, end of game, Beavs clinch series. Gorton spiking the ball as the dugout empties was icing on the cake. Up yours, you fricking ducks! 2nd favorite play at the plate was the 2007 Super Regional, game 1 against Michigan. Scoreless no hitter after 8 2/3 innings. Pinch Beaver runner on 2nd. Bloop single into shallow left and the runner dives headfirst at the plate and scores. Amazing.

Since several of you have referenced his big throw vs. the ducks, here it is:

My favorite OSU defensive outfielder ever was Brian Stamps. Whatever year that was that he was here, the season ending highlight video the team put out was 75% him. Loved that guy

The truth is normally (not taking anything away from Michael), left field is usually where your weakest arm plays. That actually depends somewhat on the park, but normally left field is the shortest throw.

Wasn't the "informed opinion" on Conforto when he was still a prospect that he lacked the arm to play LF? No, the consensus opinion was that Conforto was a LF prospect. He was always described as an average arm and average defender, best suited to playing left field. That was the scouting report. Big hitter, natural swing, great on the plate, average arm, average defender. that is it in a nut shell. Now, of course, being described as "average" in anything for a beaver prospect is the greatest insult you can ever give a fan...

Bruce is in his contract year, so it's almost certain that he will not be back with the Mets in 2018, and will likely be moved at the trading deadline if the Mets fall out of contention. Unless, of course, he has a monster year and the Mets sign him long term. Then I'd expect Conforto to get traded.
