Choose one of the first three and one of the last four...
It sounds like they are expecting a crowd. Got the email last week they were requesting sports pass holders to order tickets in advance. Got mine!

I'll be there with the family! I might be able to hear again by Saturday. I hope it is half as loud as it was today!

Not attending /will be watching... do not feel good about this. My only hope as I have not seen Tennessee, is that they are not that good or ready for good competition. There just seems to be something missing from the games I've seen us play. I mean we're beating teams we are supposed to, margins are decent, but? ? I don't know? Maybe there are just some experienced players not contributing they way I expected? Maybe there are some nagging injuries? But, I do know we need more complete contributions from the bench than we're getting to be the UT and ND's... AND everyone in the PAC has us circled. Hope I am misreading, but we seem to be going thru the motions a bit. Thoughts??

Tennessee is hurting, literally. As in they currently have just seven players suiting up.

I try to reason them out, for instance, last Saturday being the first game in a week and after finals. I sincerely do not know if those are legitimate reasons or not, just a way to calm myself. And, as I mentioned in an earlier post, perhaps Mr. Rueck is using some of these games to try out some new things. I know the team wants to win every game but I sense (sp) that SR really wants this one, and I'm hoping that will get the ladies off to a fast start. I will be there on Saturday and hope Gill will be rocking. I've heard Ali Gibson will be there too, if anyone is interested.

I think your slow starts are just a statistical illusion. Let's say you have a coin that isn't fair - it lands heads 60% of the time and tails 40%. Flip it a hundred-plus times and it gives you a pretty good estimate for the final score of one of our ladies' games. Right?
But look at what happens at the start of the game, after just a few flips. After six flips, there is a 40% chance that the "game" is either tied or we're behind. Most of us would call that a "slow start" and wonder why the team is so cold. But it doesn't mean a thing. There just hasn't been enough time for our ladies' superiority to show.
Another way to look at it is, instead of looking at the first five minutes, take any five minutes of a game at random. You know that, even when we win by thirty, there are numerous stretches where the other team makes a run or we miss a few shots in a row or our offense just falls out of gear. There is never a game where we win every single minute. If the first minutes happens to be one of those spots, then we call it a "slow start" and wonder why the ladies weren't ready to play.
Personally, I've been to almost every home game and I haven't seen any meaningful difference between the first minutes and the rest. Which is praiseworthy, actually, since less experienced teams tend to start the game playing like their hair is on fire and then lose their focus in the later periods. (reference: our men @ Kansas)

All in all we really haven't played anyone. The women are outscoring their opponents by 40-50 or more in each quarter. My "eye test" just doesn't see us playing at the level we need to be vs the best competition. Excuses will vary about playing well enough to dominate, playing to the level of competition, etc. It is simply my viewpoint that the overall contributions from the bench is not where it should be and some of our starters seemingly are playing like they can "flip a switch" and turn it up when they want to. I just am leery of our consistency through the lineup.

I will be there Saturday with my brother who flew up from Dallas, TX for it. I'm nervous about this game. We've had good margins of victory over relatively weak teams, but we've looked sloppy... poor passing and LOTS of turnovers. Deven Hunter is not playing as well as last year, though McWilliams may offset that to some degree. Shooting percentage has been down recently... hopefully just due to the fatigue of being on the road and finals. My hope is that, with better competition coming in, they rise to the occasion and play at another level... the level they are expected to play at in January. We need to get our shooting % back up and turnovers down. Tennessee surged at the end of the game with us last year ramping up defensive pressure and causing turnovers. Down the stretch, this was a common problem. Handling that pressure is the biggest issue for this team. Kalmer, though inconsistent offensively and sometimes foul-prone, has proven to be a good ball-handler with a relatively low turn-over rate. I think she's going to be key to this team getting better. Sydney needs relief, but also needs more help so that double-teaming her is not as effective.
