Uh, proven point guard, yeah, let's get her in and close the deal!! She could be a great addition to our squad.
Go Beavs!

I'm stumped as to why we weren't on her radar. I found myself sucked into her Twitter page and see lots of Christian quotes, clearly she has a very strong faith. I'm surprised that Rueck's program didn't appeal to her since I'm pretty sure I've heard he also has a strong Christian faith and I think is open about it with his team. Plus, we were better than all those teams when she was coming out, save U Conn. Maybe this is our time?!

I would think there political beliefs would be important too. Anyone know how Rueck is aligned?

He's spent his entire professional career encouraging, honoring and inspiring young women while earning their respect and appreciation. 'Nuff said.

Yup. Can't say as I've ever heard a recruit say a coach's political persuasion was a consideration, have heard Christianity mentioned though. If any school would have a recruit mention that it would have been OSU during the Robinson/Obama years. Did it ever come up?

Destiny Slocum and Mikayla Pivec have a connection. They both took their official visits to the University of Washington on the same weekend together in August 2015 according to the Prospects Nation website. By doing so, they would have spent a lot of time together in Seattle that weekend and certainly compared notes on how their recruiting processes were going back then prior to their senior year of high school. The two also competed against each other in the 2016 National Family Insurance Three-Point Shooting Contest and are quoted saying some complimentary things about each other in the USA Today article that is accessible below. I wouldn't be surprised if Pivec (as well as other OSU players who may know Slocum) has reached out to Destiny to see if she has interest in playing at OSU. Boise is a lot closer to Corvallis than it is to a number of other PAC-12 schools. Boise State University would be very convenient for Destiny's parents to attend her games, but I would think that she would want to test herself about the best in the nation by playing for a school in a Power 5 conference. I think that the Beavers would have to be a consideration for Slocum. I have seen her play numerous times. She plays with a true joy for the game and loves to compete. Beaver Nation would embrace her style of play and love for the game. usatodayhss.com/2016/oregon-state-signee-mikayla-pivec-takes-3-point-title-at-high-school-slam-3-point-championships

We are becoming a destination school, a school of choice, one of the top schools in the nation - but you can only get so many to look your way regardless of how good you are or the connections your players have with potential recruits. We'll get our share of young women with NW connections, but remember that the Huskies were with us in the final 4 a year ago, and have some star drawing power of their own. I wish the best for her, and would love to see her in our backcourt!

I agree with much of what mbabeavs has written above. There are lots of good reasons for high school talent and promising transfers to consider playing for the Beavers and that Slocum would be a welcome addition.
I really don't consider the UW now as a likely destination for Slocum. With Neighbors leaving for Arkansas and a search underway for the next women's basketball coach there, there would seem to be too much uncertainty for a high profile transfer like Slocum to seriously consider that school when so much is in place already at OSU and other more PAC-12 schools that should be more competitive than the UW will be during the next 3-4 years.
Following the graduations of Plum, Osahor, and Collier, the UW will likely be picked to finish in the bottom half of the PAC-12 for '17-'18 and the following year when Slocum would be eligible to resume her career as a redshirt sophomore. The UW's "star drawing power" has significantly declined. Oregon has two point guards who both seem to feel a need to have the ball in their hands. UCLA will be losing both Canada and Billings by the time that Slocum is eligible to compete during the '18-'19 season. Arizona State had a freshman starting point guard and another freshman starting #2 guard in '16-'17 who also handles the ball regularly.
Oregon State would seem to be the best fit for Slocum within the PAC-12.

There is some big chatter today from TSDTR about a recruit that would make the basketball world say "What?" Look on E-suck about a Graves radio interview. I don't think it is Slocum but who else is out there that big? To be announced soon.

I think each major sport program at you ho will go through a flash to the top and then settle back a bit. Not much but some. But, for the time being we just have to root like hell against them. Wait, that's what we always do. Carry on.
