Not sure what kind of defense to use to keep hitters from reaching base and advancing runners to scoring position on a foul ball. Really absurd to miss that one by all 4 umps. If WCC is only using 3, might be another reason on top of RPI to not play this game in the future.

What is it with Tuesday games, especially against Portland? Happy we just retook the lead, but come on fellas, this is the Pilots we are talking about. KILL THEM!

Mulholland wow. Between those 2: 20 batters, 1 hit, 14 SO. I always count on Pat Casey to bring in one great freshman arm...but these two are just WOW !

Another victory, I'll take 'em any which way we get 'em. Washington lost at home to Seattle U tonight, so the road win looks better in that regard.

Beaver pitchers struck out 18 U of P batters! Tied the all time OSU record set in 1941 against Idaho. Eisert and Mulholland dominated in relief of Tweedt. Eisert alone struck out 8 consecutive at one point. Those two freshmen are keeping several veterans from getting any game action. We have a deep pitching staff with what must be some serious competition to earn the chance to pitch in a game.

It does look like the midweek starter job has opened up after 2 marginal starts by Tweedt. But, who moves into that role? Seems we want the most effective relievers to stay in those roles. Midweek may be a Johnny Wholestaff deal for awhile.

I personally think Eisart should be stretched out on his pitch count and given a mid week start.
My other opinion is that Mulholland should be our closer... Let max take the 8th inning.
I think Mulholland is the closer next year. Time to be grooming another starter for the post season and next year in my humble opinion.

He really wants to be a starter. Struggling with not knowing when/if he'll pitch and how to prep in a relievers role. His performances indicate he's handling it quite nicely, but personally wanting to be a starter. Which is great... I'm thinking he'll get that chance and this summer will be allowed that role. I like the fact that this year the young arms are not throwing big innings right away. I'm all for no Soph/Jr surgeries!

That's a good point, not something I had thought much about- a lot of these guys (if not all) were the #1's on their high school and legion teams - knew exactly when they were going to pitch. Would guess that's a huge change for some guys mentally to make that adjustment to being ready to warm up and run out there with 10 minutes notice. We've seen what happens when you enter the game and maybe aren't mentally locked in. Gambrell got the "Casey special" last night...wasn't the first, won't be the last.

Eisart is my first thought as a Tuesday starter - speaking of which he has 3 wins in 8 days coming out of the bullpen, how Fehmelesk. I still like Max as our closer, and I imagine he's going to see a few opportunities this weekend. What an embarrassment, wonderful embarrassment of riches we have.

Like any D-1 sport, these guys were all stars in high school. For a lot of freshmen, these are the best players they have ever faced and they face 9 of them.

It would be great to catch one of his starts this summer (assuming that the Beavs give their OK to that role) when the Bells come to Bend. A lot of times Beav starters that play WCL ball, end up pitching little during the summer in order to rest. Shouldn't be the case with Mulholland as his IP total for 2017 NCAA season should be low.
