Oregon State beat Duke twice this year in baseball, 6-3 and 11-2.
Oregon State's only prior meeting with Duke in baseball was in the first round of the 1952 College World Series. Duke won 18-7.
Oregon State played Duke in basketball twice. The first time was in the first round 1953 Dixie Classic. Duke won 71-61. The second time, Oregon State met Duke in the 3rd place game of the 1963 NCAA tournament. (Duke's first final four appearance and Oregon State's last.) Duke won 85-63. (Oregon State also finished fourth in 1949, losing the third-place game to Illinois.)
Oregon State's only football game against Duke was the 1942 Rose Bowl, held in Durham, North Carolina. Oregon State won 20-16, currently the Beavers' final Rose Bowl victory.
So, the wins were payback for the 1952 College World Series, 1953 Dixie Classic, and the 1963 third-place game.
Also, the people who watched Oregon State beat Duke saw the first such occurrence in the big three sports since January 1, 1942, 25 days after Pearl Harbor.

Well played Trebek. Well played indeed. I should add that 2017 is the 75th anniversary of the Durham Rose Bowl. That is one win over Duke in 75 years. So, we should all expect another win in 2092.
