Gorilla ball certainly didn't help. Quality of play didn't help, and when college basketball built it's mainstream following, players stayed 3 seasons, if not 4. If you wanted to watch the future stars, you watched college basketball. If you wanted to watch future baseball stars, you went to a minor league games.
The mainstream appeal has gone up a lot in the last 10+ years, but the overall appeal for baseball has stagnated. If a lot of your fans of baseball are older, which they are, and they never liked the college game, they aren't going to change their minds now.

A lot of it has to do with the fact that baseball is traditionally a "summer" sport.
Look at the HS level.
Football and basketball are big at the HS level as well. Baseball? When it's nice outside, kids can be out doing so many other things besides watching baseball. Many of the kids in HS play baseball in the summer as well as the spring.
Baseball has just never been a big-time "school" sport.
And, as G20 notes, many of the best 18-22 year old baseball players are playing in the minor leagues instead of NCAA, unlike football and basketball.

We have several of the best 18-21 year old kids playing ball for us. Last names of Heimlich, Madrigal, and Harrison. And there are a number of others just outside that rarified atmosphere. This is truly a magical season for our O State ballers. I am already enjoying it more than any other.

I watch them every chance I get. Not quite sure how that changes the fact that there's a HUGE difference between college baseball and college football & basketball overall due to the fact that baseball has an established minor league system and football and basketball do not. If minor league baseball did not exist, there would probably be quite a bit more interest in college baseball than there is now, but even then, baseball hasn't traditionally been as well-attended at the HS level either. The OP asked why college baseball was so far down on the list compared to football and basketball. My response was not intended as any slight to OSU baseball or its players. I would expect that without the presence of minor league baseball, we'd have even MORE talent on this squad. SaveSave

It helps that we are winning almost every game too. In the immortal words of Tiger Woods: "Winning takes care of everything".
