The 3 ball has so changed the game of basketball. It's made a gifted big man less important and caused a lot of standing around. So many times I watch a player drive and three other players are standing at the arc for the pass. So many times they don't get the ball and....they sit and watch and don't crash the boards. I think it makes players a little lazy.
So, I would like to see them shrink the rim's diameter by one inch for some exhibition games and see what the impact would be. I think you would see some of the bubble shooters percentages drop and it might make for a more full offensive court game.
I've worked as a pe teacher and youth leader and love modifying games. I don't ever see it happening but I think it would make the game more interesting.

I want to see 4 points for shooting from beyond the half court line. It could make the last 1-15 seconds of a game very interesting.

I don't ever see it happening but I think it would make the game more interesting. I would like to see the time allowed to reach center court reduced to maybe 7-8 seconds. That would encourage more full court defense and result in more fast breaks both ways. Radford and Blume come to mind--20 minute halves full court all the time--With the 4 minute tenth of a games they have now between time-outs, the current players should be able to handle it, but maybe not. It would put more of a premium on quick defensive players as opposed to long wing three shooters. While they are at it, they should finally raise the basket to a height that no one can jam. This is a change of position for me, but I think it is time. I would think it would be a good idea, if this is implemented, to increase the size of the backboard a little. With the increase in the size of players today, I think the court should be a little wider, but probably not longer. The idea of reducing the diameter of the basket is interesting--Would that make the real sharpshooters more valuable than they are now? Maybe the idea should be to increase the diameter to make the supply of shooters even bigger?? Just asking. Maybe increase the diameter and eliminate the three point shot making it advantageous to get closer to the basket and making almost all players capable of hitting an open shot. With the increasing size and athleticism of the current players on the current court, the game is pretty jammed up and has gone Kabuki on us. Dribble around on the perimeter, drive and draw a foul or kick out for the three--Pretty much NBA lite which is kind of like soccer--interesting in its own way, but pretty boring stuff.

It's definitely time for some changes. I'd also like to see the court wider. Decreasing the diameter would, like you said, identify the sharp shooters. If the golf hole was increased by an inch imagine how many more golfers would be lining up to make the cut. I do hope the powers that be so something. Your view of the current style is right on and again, it's time for some changes. I think anyway.
