How in the world do you win 52 games, go 28-2 in the PAC, and get an RPI of 9? That RPI is some crazy math!

How in the world do you win 52 games, go 28-2 in the PAC, and get an RPI of 9? That RPI is some crazy math! Look at his predictions for the Pac-12. Other than Arizona, the conference is down this year. That hurts our RPI. I'm not sure if any team has ever only lost three games in the regular season. I have been a college baseball fanatic since 2006, and i do not recall anyone coming close to that number. Last year, by mid-May, the top ten rated teams had lost between nine and eighteen games.

The interesting thing would be if we finish around 50 wins and say 26-4 in the PAC-12, where the national seed will be. Can a PAC-12 team get the #1 seed...over the ACC #2 and SEC #3 teams?

In a word, YES. If we have 8-10 fewer losses than the top SEC/ACC team, how can they deny us the #1 seed? I really do not want the #1 seed curse again. 2014 was bad enough. I think the #1 seed has won it all once in Omaha. But, this year's team is different. Maybe they can power thru that and break the curse.

I just hope the 2 loses don't come in a Regional or Super Regional! One loss in each would be acceptable. Back to the program..... you can't play the number one RPI team (beavs) if your are the number one RPI team (beavs) to keep your RPI up. Hey! lets play an intersquad game to keep the RPI up!

I'm not sure which thread to attach my comment too... but I feel like that is a VERY good Arizona team. They can hit and they play defense well enough for sure... I was impressed with the first 2 starting pitchers as well, they just don't have the pitching depth that we do.
They are good and I think they will rebound nicely...
In Game #1 - they shouldn't have pitched to KJ. Hard to know what would have happened if they walked him but that is the norm in competitive baseball.
In Game #2 - Voss hit a shot of our closer in the top of 9... huge credit to him and we capitilized on Voss not being able to stop that nasty splitter in the dirt for the win.
Game #3 seemed to be ours from the 1st inning, but even that kid settled down nicely and hung several zeroes on the board in a row.
Stanford on the road will be the next test. I'm very happy we swept that Arizona team and I expect them to be taking 2nd place in the Pac this year and making some noise in the tournament.
Just my $0.02

Fully agree...I think Arizona could yet be scary good. Hitting of course is off the charts but it seems as if they have yet to work out their pitching rotation. Clearly though, they lack the Beaver's overall pitching depth. Nevertheless, I could see them doing some serious damage in the post-seasonn.

If we see Arizona again and we will likely see them let it be in Omaha !!! don't forget the score was 7-11 with the bases loaded one more home run and AZ could have walked out 1-2. Glad we won, Glad this pitching staff saw that competition early.

Mulholland in the 9th - microphone drop on the mound Correct. Once we used our designated 8th inning setup guy (in the role of 9th inning closer) it was OVER, wham bam 3 up, 3K....against the highest BA TEAM in D1....And that was without Max. UA 'comeback' was meaningless to very mildly troubling at worst.

UA 'comeback' was meaningless to very mildly troubling at worst. I was nervous, trust me the AZ team seemed ready to totally bust out - till Mulholland got that first strikeout. The AZ team just deflated. This stat line is just ugly unreal Player era w-l app gs cg sho sv ip h r er bb so 2b 3b hr b/avg wp hp bk sfa sha 38 Mulholland, Jake 0.00 2-0 9 0 0 0/3 1 19.0 12 0 0 2 18 1 1 0 . 179 0 0 0 0 2 I have seen that kind of line from a starter, but a reliever with 9 appearances? A frosh? I mean I used to watch Gundy with awe, but this young man has stepped it up to another level. With him and Max at the back end (and it took what is still probably the best hitting team in college ball to get Max's first earned run), we will never be out of a game. "Thud!"
