First game in attendance this year

Was great to get the opportunity to watch the ladies in my locale. Lots orange at the game. Unfortunately, a lot of it was in the upper deck and make it harder for Beaver Nation to help out.
This team has gone as Syd has gone all year, and obviously not a great game for her. FSU has athletes that can make a two-man game indefensible with being deadly from mid-range. Couple that with the refs rewarding their aggressiveness by not calling ball strips that often got a lot of arm, and it spelled trouble. I found myself wishing we had a ball handling/better passing SF that could drop under and punish the repeated hedges on Syd so she could float the ball over it and we'd have 4 on 3 or better at the high post. We just never seemed to try it, and I'm guessing we just don't have the right skillset in that position to attack that approach that way.
Going to really miss Gabby - her athleticism alone is going to be very hard to replace. She was the one player that seemed on-par with some of FSU's very athletic front-court.
I like Pivec's aggressiveness this game - if she develops a floater, she would have all the tools to score at will.
We're obviously going to have a big hole to fill losing Syd. I suspect we may have a more diverse approach next year as a result, as it was typically in this team's best interest to have the ball in Syd's hands. That became problematic however when athletic teams doubled her - and forced our offense to run though other players, which we hadn't done enough of in general.
Regardless, awesome season that I hated to see end. Coach Rueck was his usual gracious self and treated my little girls to a chat and autographs - we are so fortunate to have him. Quality entertainment put on by quality individuals made for a great family outing - many thanks to Coach Rueck and his crew!
