I attended the 5A Girl's championship game on the 10th to see our 2017-18 freshman Aleah Goodman. I wanted to get an idea of what her skills were. I have a video of the game that you can check out here . I'm not going to leave the link there forever; I'll probably give it a week or two for people to check it out. It was done with a handheld camera and is not HD; it lasts just a little over an hour.
Aleah shows decent ball-handling skills, great court vision, good passing skills and is a good shooter from the arc. She also has a good pull-up jumper. She is injured at about 14:06. It was a scary moment. She seemed to be in a lot of pain but walked it off during a timeout and came back to finish the game. It looked like it was her left knee, but I can't be sure. On defense, I noticed that she looked around a lot and sometimes lost her matchup, having to scramble back to defend. I'm not too worried about that because of the fact that she carries a big load for that team and I think she is doing more than she would have to on a team with a stronger supporting cast. Rueck will break her of that habit fast. My only remaining question is her quickness. It is hard to judge that on a player playing her 3rd game in 3 days (hard enough for a college level team). As with just about any HS player, she has a lot of learning and conditioning ahead of her. She seems to have the character, drive, and selflessness that Scott R. looks for.
Edit: She is #1 for La Salle (in white uniforms). She always brings the ball up the court and is easy to spot based on her hair.
Edit2: Sorry if you tried to access but had issues. I had thought I had set the permissions so that anyone with the link could see it. It should be accessible to everyone now using the link above.
