Why do we have a guy with a .220 ba and .286 obp hitting 2nd in the line up. Its also a lefty vs lefty match up. You put that guy there if you want to bunt Madrigal. Some of the LOB situation is on Casey.

Grenier - brilliant play for 3rd out of 8th (even if ump might have blown call). Beavs still up 2-0

Donahue's SO numbers are un-real....and Kwan, despite a failure or two this early season, is the best bunter on the squad....Though Grenier's base hit bunt tonight was especially nice.

Kwan belongs down in the 9 hole until he proves otherwise. Lots of other options at 2 including Donahue, Anderson, Grenier - well, pretty much anyone else on the squad. Especially vs LHP.

Lowered the staff ERA to 1.12 I believe Mike said on the postgame show. Good grief. Max was nasty in the ninth, and Luke was dealing.

It was exactly what I expected. A PAC-12 game. ASU. Friday pitchers. Every AB was important. Good defense. Better pitching. A great game with a great outcome. Mrs. Sage, me, and Jose for the full nine innings. Phew!!!!
BTW, the call at first was correct. The ball in the glove at the same time the foot hit the bag. Rule is the batter/runner has to be at the base PRIOR to the catch. Tie does not go to the runner. Blue has one shot at it in real time, no digital stop action looking at fraction of an inch. Believe it or not, he hears it as well as sees it. Made the call quick and decisive.

We face another lefty today, so I'll be interested to see what we do - i have a feeling it's essentially just an early season warning shot by PC to Donahue. He was responsible for 1/4 of our strikeouts heading into last weekend and of course had a rough first couple weeks in the field as well. He'll be back.. (I hope)

(I hope) First, it was a pleasure listending to Parker last night. On a second note, the return of Cary will somewhat influence the lineup. Final note is that Andy Atwood can also fill the number 2 slot in the order. He has good wheels, good bunter, smart guy. On the other hand, he did well last night in the 5 hole. There aren't a lot of options for the 2 spot against lefties, though the early games in Surprise showed that Casey would like Grenier in the 1 or 2 slot. Now, against a righty starter, the Beavers have tons of options. Luke is just amazing. Still hitting 92 in the 8th, nasty breaking stuff, and filthy control. Have to give ASU a little credit for getting Luke up in the pitch count by fouling off tons of filthy, 2-strike pitches. Guy is impressive.
