Went 2-2 over the weekend. The two wins were over Sac State and not impressive ones either imho.
The two losses were to Fresno State. Scores were 4-1 and 6-2.
I hate to be negative but pac play could be a disaster. As a pac 12 school we should not be struggling to beat what should be inferior teams and we are struggling to beat teams we should be on par with.
It's a broken record but I'm not sure Berg is the answer. She was recently named the Junior Women's National Team Head Coach. I have no doubt that her success as a player gets her in a lot of doors but in her 5th season OSU will still not go .500 or better in conference and that is the true mark of being a successful coach in the Pac 12.

".....I'm not sure Berg is the answer......"Maybe there just isn't an answer. Maybe the Athletic Dept. simply doesn't assign any import to softball. The schmucks softball program is elite. Like OSU baseball. It may be very tough to unseat them in the state, and they don't want to throw more resources at it. ... I think Berg is a GREAT coach. The schmucks simply have some "recruiting advantages" over OSU. Period.

I also like to believe that the right coach can get the most out their talent and I don't believe Berg is able to do that. I realize if we could pump the funds into facilities we could land the kind of talent that could be successful at some level without the top coaching but we don't have the resources so we need a coach that can 'coach 'em up' and I don't think that's Berg. No doubt she has all the knowledge in the world about the game but getting players to execute to their potential is altogether different imho.,

Good thoughts. Whoreton and the schmucks are proof one can't simply throw ahelluvalot of money at a sport in an obvious attempt to displace an elite in-state rival. Goss is special. Intimate. Casey's a great coach. Great. I worry, though. The schmucks (to their...gulp...credit) figured out before many that perception is king to many. Berg has to persuade players from warmer climes to play in the Oregon springtime...look outside RIGHT NOW....Without a tangible "something" it ain't easy. Let's build a massive DOME over the SB facilities.... ;-)

Softball is a small enough venue that a structure not much bigger than Truax could do it. Hmmmm, I think I'll give Mr. Buffet a call...:-)

What you need in softball to be successful.....pitching, pitching, pitching.
The Schmucks with three pitchers (two freshmen, and a sophomore) with ERA's of .77, 1.11, 1.62 it is no wonder they do what they do. Pitching is almost everything in softball, just ask any SEC team.

All I'm saying is we can be better than we are. Arriola, Lopez and Everett were top end recruits and they are under performing.
