Only 11 months in is still on the very short side of recovery, just want to see Drew pitch only if he is absolutely ready; he will be welcome any time he can get on the hill for us. Otherwise we are who we are; erratic and needing to get into that groove, but after the first 8 games, we are proving that we will be in there for the Pac 12 title hunt if the errors are limited, and we just keep putting the bat on the ball. We had a lot of situations where the ball was hit hard, but right at people. Sooner or later those are going to start dropping.

Will we likely lose Drew after this year to the mlb draft regardless of when he comes back to pitch, or will he likely need to come back next year to prove himself for scouts? Just curious which scenario is more likely based on prior players' experience or if its just too early to guage at this point. IMO, It's going to depend on an MLB team's willingness to draft him high this year. Teams may be willing to draft Drew and give him a nice contract this year if they're not worried about his elbow. Since he has an extra year of eligibility, he CAN come back next year without losing much $$ if he feels like he's getting a raw deal this year. Drew is actually in a decent spot regarding the draft. He has the leverage to go in 2017 or 2018 depending on what he feels his best options are.

Ok, I'm confused....
Drew is a Redshirt Sophmore because he was able to Redshirt last year?
He graduated H.S. in 2014 - was drafted in the 39th round but didn't sign. Played his 2015 as a freshman... Injured early in 2016 and used a redshirt ?
So in 2017 he is a Redshirt Sophomore and will be draft eligible in this years draft. BUT... he could come back to school for 2018 as a Redshirt Junior and take his crack at the Draft again with the leverage of I can return to school for my Senior year to get his Signing Bonus bumped up.
Do I have that right?
I hope Drew doesn't rush himself back.... I'd love to see him pitch this year but not sacrificing his recovery or long term ability to pitch.
I thought the key line of the article was Yeskie's comment and I paraphrase, 'Drew is ready in his mind and that is a good thing'
I don't see this coaching staff rushing him back and if and when he does pitch this year he will need to build up stamina from the pen before he can start again.
But I love to hear to positive report. Keep working hard Drew, we are all pulling for a full recovery.

You have it right. Other than concern over another possible injury, it seems Drew has little to lose and a lot to gain by showing that he is fully recovered. If that should happen this year, so be it, but it seems that a strong full redshirt-junior year could make him some big money.

A lot of teams will still pay a decent signing bonus based in rehab reports and wanting Drew in their system with their Drs and PT guys.
He's actually in a win/risk situation. If he is "advised" not to pitch and he does...
- he'll need to be/show he's very close to 100% or risk low end offer.
- he could choose to return to OSU in that case, and reestablish himself, but again risk of injury or not returning to form is a risk
- if he throws and reinjures himself he's without a contract
Depending on the $ they are tossing at him "safe" says rehab, only venture onto the mound at Goss if he's 110%, throw like he did, sign. But, his competitive fire might have a say in it!

As much as it pains me to think it / say it, Drew's best bet is to take a MLB contract and rehab with the big boys, never pitch another college game...

As much as it pains me to think it / say it, Drew's best bet is to take a MLB contract and rehab with the big boys, never pitch another college game... That might be his best bet, but ONLY if someone decides to pay him his money this year. Drew still gets to weigh the cost/benefit of pitching a solid season in 2018. It only takes one team to make him forget about 2018, but it's still likely teams want him at a discount due to the injury. Better if we just let it all play out rather than attempt to foresee what's going to happen 3.5 months from now.
