if this team is going to be great,( i.e. getting to Omaha and doing some damage ) It will come down to Jake. he is the only one of the starter that has true Friday night,#1 guy stuff. great teams have a horse at the top of the rotation. the other guys Heimlich, Femhel and Tweed are fine pitchers but they profile as #2 and #3 starters. Jake's stuff is head and shoulders above the rest of the rotation. he is 92-96 mph with a plus breaking ball and change up. great teams have someone with the stuff to beat great hitting teams. the other guy don't have swing and miss stuff against real good hitters. so to me the real question is whether Jake has matured enough mentally to be that guy. past history would make me a little nervous, but I do not believe we have another option.

Agreed - for the most part. Jake's time has come. The promise of a couple years ago is now at center stage. Great story if it ends well.

Will be very interesting to see who gets the 3 rotation spots. Heimlich is a lock as far as I'm concerned...with none of the others locked down.
I don't disagree with you about Jake at all, but I have ZERO desire for him to be anything more than the Sunday guy. Now, he could/should be a LOCKDOWN Sunday guy so that would be amazing but I just get nervous with what he's shown at times above the shoulders to be a Friday or Saturday guy.
At this point, my head is Fehmel/Heimlich/Thompson in that order....will be interesting.
Does feel like not as many dominant Friday night guys in the Pac 12 this year

Jake has always had the potential to be great. I hope he has finally excised his demons. If true, we have an awesome 1-2-3 staff this year. I see Heimlich as the Friday guy, but you never know what can happen during the season. If Raz returns, all bets are off.
