Misses a home run call.
Refers to the cheering of fans at the gesture of a man giving a youngster a foul ball as a "Bronx Cheer".
Loses track of the batting order consistently.
"This is not a good day for me." No kidding?
Jeezus.
Maybe Hank should call these games by himself.

I recall when these early season games weren't even on the radio! And there was no Gametracker. Hell, no internet! Had to wait until the next day GT for the writeup.

There was one positive. He did something I did not think was possible: He made Jaybird look good

I think we need to give Jon a break. By his own admission on the Joe Beaver Show he admitted he hadn't done baseball for many years, and in fact, he was a bit nervous about doing it. Hey, he won't be there for long as Parker won't be with basketball for much longer. Jon will get better as he gets a few more games under his belt and gets his game on (as they say).

Maybe he should have brushed up on the rules a bit before going on air? Also, quit trying to tell us what is happening as you see it. It's radio, you can let it play out a bit and then tell it correctly. Better than "And it's caught, no wait, its not caught, no wait it's a home run. Nevermind, it was a foul ball."
Goosfrabah, Jon Warren. Let the game come to you.

I believe in giving people a break when they are volunteers or strictly amateurs. That applies to all fields, including athletes and announcers. Jon is getting paid to do this - his performance is fair game for criticism - just as there is a difference between college athletes and pros. That is not to say that he is not by all accounts a decent and upstanding man. This is not a criticism of his character - just his ability. If he cannot do the job properly he should not have taken the gig.
A few bits of constructive criticism for Jon (and all play-by-play persons):
1) As stated above, wait a couple seconds to see what happens before describing the play. We are not going anywhere. 2) Do not talk about yourself. 3) Do not incessantly talk about how and why you made mistake - We don't care. Just correct it and move on. 4) Do not tell us that you should have had the stats in front of us. Prepare ahead and have them. 5) By the way, Jon, to most people who listen to baseball broadcasts a "comebacker" means a ball hit directly to the pitcher, not one hit up the middle. To your credit, Jon, you at least tell us that a foul pop is out-of-play, unlike Jay, who would say "he pops it up" and then not tell us that it was foul to start with.

I agree. One big help for Jon would be to get the online book in front of you. Just quit trying to score as you go. If the internet goes down you are in trouble. But you need to simplify the booth. There is a lot of stuff going on. From Jefferson City in your ear to the line up of "coming attractions", station breaks and everything else.
And like other before. Slow down. Tell us what happened after it happened. Like a good basketball official. Call what you see. Not what you think is going to happen. I'm pretty sure MP has game notes. Maybe ask him how he prepares
Keep your head up Jon. this is a knowlegable baseball crowd. We have high expectations. Even experienced announcer have a hard time here. Jay Bird has done a lot of games. And there is a segment here don't like him. Heck there are some here that don't care for MP. Vin Scully would have a short honeymoon here!
edit to add: Jon is way better than some of the student run broadcasts in the Pac 11. Stanford comes to mind immediately

Posted as if there was a plethora of top-notch play-by-play announcers in the Mid-Valley. If there was a better guy around, they'd use him. And he practically *is* an amateur. Small-town sports radio is pretty close to volunteer work.

If not for Jon doing the broadcast it's possible we wouldn't be getting these early broadcasts this year while MP is still doing basketball.

I'll say this about JW - whenever he does play by play in Surprise, Arizona we beat Duke and Indiana. You can set your watch to it...

My favorite Warren-ism from the weekend: "Here's the wind up, fastball on the outside corner, GOT HIM.....for strike one."

John does tell us the score at least every half inning, and he is entertaining. We are 4-0 and there is not much more I could ask for.
