2016 to 2017 comparisons. Obviously with the graduation of Ruth, Deven and Sam, the minutes for Bre, Marie and Kolbie were going to increase. But what they've done with those minutes has been the key to our success this season (so far, through 24 games).
Kolbie Orum
Year | Games Played | Ave Minutes | Ave Pts | Ave Rebounds | 2016 | 27 | 7.2 | 2.3 | 1.3 | 2017 | 24 | 22.5 | 6.3 | 5.2 |
Marie Gulich
Year | Games Played | Ave Minutes | Ave Pts | Ave Rebounds | 2016 | 37 | 15.1 | 4.1 | 3.9 | 2017 | 24 | 28.5 | 10.5 | 8.0 |
Breanna Brown
Year | Games Played | Ave Minutes | Ave Pts | Ave Rebounds | 2016 | 18 | 5.5 | 2.2 | 1.7 | 2017 | 24 | 20.6 | 8.9 | 5.8 |
Excited to see how Bre's and Marie's productivity will continue to improve in '18.

Statistically they've played almost identical to last year... double... triple... quadruple... the minutes their stats did the same.
So basically their production stayed "scarily" constant which is pretty good when the minutes increase dramatically.

It will be interesting to see what sort of trajectory Gulich and Brown will be on next year. If they can continue this level of development, look out. Will be interesting how Kolbie's minutes are distributed next year between Corosdale, Washington and Thropay. And I wonder how Coach Rueck will use Grymek - will be interesting to see how ready she is for the Pac-12 (as the #2 juco player in the country and the #1 center, she should ramp up quick!). But this season isn't over for about 10 more games.....
Kolbie, with her long step has the ability to drive and create her own shot, while Bre and Marie are more post up and get the entry pass types. But back to the original point, I think much of our success this year has come because the bigs who (other than Marie) had limited opportunities in previous seasons and still really, really stepped up when their number was called this year. Add two "Pac-12 ready" freshmen, and we were able to deal with the departure of Ruth, Jamie and Deven far better than most of us thought. And if Bre and Marie take a similar step next year.....
Go Beavs!

While I might not have been clear in my post, I too realize Kolbie is gone after this year - note above: "It will be interesting to see what sort of trajectory Gulich and Brown will be on next year." and "And if Bre and Marie take a similar step next year......." (as Kolbie did this year). The nice thing is that we have the #8 forward, 5 star Taya Corosdale coming in next year, along with Maddie Washington and Janessa Thropay prepping this year to vie for Kolbie's minutes, who as you point out [and I tried to] is a senior and will be moving on after this season. Go Beavs!
