This team has some major flaws... Free throw shooting, turnovers, and inability to effectively deal with the press.
They don't look sharp. Clanking shots all over the place.
Also, Ann Schatz is like nails on a chalkboard.

Also, Ann Schatz is like nails on a chalkboard. Agreed One thing the Beavs do well is rebound. Up on the boards 48-28 last time I saw a graphic

Beavs went cold in the 4th quarter. Buffs got within 1. KT Mac with a big block on Leonard putting up a 3 pointer to try to tie the game. Leonard looks really good. She has about 16-18 points. Crafty player
Buffs did not hit a 3 tonite
Beavs win 54-49

Won that game with our size and grit. Not pretty, but got the job done.

Ugly...but its a win. Lots of things to work on even though the regular season is almost over. 7-16 from the line. Ouch!! That needs to get drastically better if they want to make a run in the post season. They look like they are going through the motions at times. Granted the other team will always be energized to beat a highly ranked team but the play looks uninspired at times. 5-20 from the three point line. Shooting that many and not hitting very many won't help the cause either. Live and die from the 3 point line. They lived tonight but that probably won't work against the really good teams.

Don't discount long season... late season game at altitude vs opponent we crushed by 24 earlier.
Shouldn't have been this close but it was and we won. As PC said "W's... you can play well and win, you can play poorly and win... but winning is more important than playing well and losing"... paraphrased but close ☺

Also, Ann Schatz is like nails on a chalkboard. Funny how a team with "major flaws" can be in first place in the strongest conference. Also if they couldnt deal with the press and that is the key formula to beat the beavers why do they onky have 3 losses?

The good news is we've seen time and again that against the strongest competition, this team can elevate its game when needed. I'll never grouse about a road win.

Also, Ann Schatz is like nails on a chalkboard. Oh good grief. Yeah, that's why we're sitting atop the best women's basketball conference in the nation. You wanna see major flaws? Look at their swinging pickle counterparts at Gill.

Everything hit the front of the rim. Made enough free throws when it counted. Rebounding and defense was the difference. It is interesting that a team that does not run much and is very good can have so many "unforced errors". We did take care of the ball in the 3Q and most of the 4th though. Road win is always a good thing. Play well against the Utes at lower elevation and time to acclimatize a bit more then prepare for Stanford which probably will decide the regular-season title and #1 seed.

I too like Ann's enthusiasm - and I am getting used to some of her mannerisms: "Puts up a runner, but the basket didn't want it" "Beavers looking good, decked out in black from stem to stern" "And Ruth says, "Not in my kitchen" with a rejection" I like Bill Walton when he is talking about hoops - he is quite articulate. Unfortunately he seems to free associate and talk about anything *but* basketball (might be the Beavers don't give him enough to talk about). My favorite commentator, and this is not because of Beaver bias, is Lamar Hurd - when he was doing Pac-12 games I always learned something - very insightful guy..... Go Beavs!

As PC said "W's... you can play well and win, you can play poorly and win... but winning is more important than playing well and losing"... paraphrased but close ☺ My guess is the altitude was a big factor with our poor FG shooting in the 4Q. Coach Rueck also rotated more liberally in the first half. I thought he did a better job keeping people fresh in the first half, and then shortened the rotation in the second. I thought giving Kalmer a few minutes in the second might have helped our scoring and let us create more of a gap in the score, but she was getting scored on by their taller guards on dribble-drive mid range shots.... I agree altitude definitely slowed us down a lot and had us missing a number of shots, and we also left some FTs on the table (due to altitude and also who ended up taking the FTs from our side - the ~50% shooters on our team had the majority of FTs, with the expected results) and had our typical high volume of turnovers. Will be interesting to see the improvement and take-aways from this swing through the mountain states. Go Beavs!
