Why don't they rotate schools to host this? Granted there are not a huge amount of hotel rooms in Corvallis, but if you include cities within a short driving distance (Albany, Salem, sprew-gene) it is more than adequate housing. Even Portland would be better. After all we are defending champions and lead the league in attendance.

The first tourneys were held in the LA area but attendance was negligible - in 2012 there were fewer than 8000 in all sessions COMBINED. Attendance in Seattle has been very good - in part because UW fans show up pretty well, and in part because OSU fans drive up in big numbers. Last year the conference was ecstatic with a crowd of 6500+ for OSU-UW in the semis and 4500+ for the finals.
The conference has committed to Seattle through 2019.
There is no way they would go with a rotation. Corvallis can't host it - you need hotels for 12 teams, plus TV and league officials, and they all naturally want to be close to the venue. Pullman is even worse. No one wants to go back to SoCal, or have the tourney hosted by a school where no one goes to the games (Arizona, Utah). Vegas - the obvious neutral site - won't work, because the California and Arizona fans won't drive over to see their girls. There is only one fan base that travels at all - ours - and only so many of us are willing to make the flight.

Thanks for the response and information. Attendance wise I wouldn't think there wouldn't be much of a difference as more local fans would be able to attend. Next year I look for Washington to be a bottom dweller with the lost of Plum and their big post player and this will affect attendance. As far as lodging...how far is too far? Portland too far?

Seattle actually does pretty well even when UW doesn't advance. In 2014, UW lost in the first round and they still had 6000 in the semi's and almost 5000 watch the finals. In 2015, UW lost in the round of eight, and attendance was about the same. I'd guess that there are about 1000-2000 UW fans that only come to see UW, but there are at least as many that buy the whole ticket package. There are a lot of WSU fans in Seattle, too.
I don't know if it's a big deal. UW doesn't have a great history in the tournament. Last year as #5 they beat #4 and took #1 to the wire. But in 2015 they were #5 and lost to #4. In 2014 they were #6 and lost to #11. Neither UW nor WSU have ever made the finals.

Oregon State could be the host but it would have to be at the Moda Center in Portland. Not sure if the league would want that to happen but that is the only way Oregon State would host the conference tourney.

Means staying near the airport and in the hinterlands then fighting traffic to get to Moda.

Benson, Heathman, 2 Marriots, Westin, Hilton, Mallory, Embassy Suites, Paramount, The Nines, etc, etc, etc.

Portland spent *millions* on a convention center that didn't have a hotel. They doubled-down on that with the Moda Center. They've spent years trying to recruit a hotelier to the area, but there is nothing there to attract the business travelers that hotels depend on for the 330 days each year that there isn't a convention. The city was told that by everyone they asked way back in the 1990's, and this is the result. The convention center hosts swap meets and church socials while the Moda Center went bankrupt and now competes for B-list events.
It's almost as stupid as building a $100,000,000 venue in a town that's a fifth the size of Portland, with a main tenant that plays fewer then 20 games per year in it.
I'm sorry to get so far off topic. I'm just sitting here working on my taxes . . .

I would have to agree with you on this. I had regular monthly meetings in downtown Portland Post Office for years and there are "tons" of motel/hotels close by and with the Max a easy no headache means of travel.

Final design review approval obtained and construction set to begin shortly www.nextportland.com/2016/11/29/convention-center-hotel-approved/Completion scheduled for mid 2019. Better late than never, right?

He believes he's funny and basically posts middle school level barbs. Plenty of rooms in downtown Pdx... airport closer, hosting school(s)/fans closer. But I believe OSU would have lots of cooperation from NBA. Probably would take dual bid with Nike pull to get Pac12 to consider it for the next contract. Would be great to have it.

Hmmmm.
Portland has an NBA team and no WNBA team.
Seattle has an WNBA team and no NBA team.
I'm not seeing Seattle losing a bid to PDX. Seattle has proven that they have an audience for women's sports. Portland hasn't. Even men's college hoops hasn't done all that well in PDX.

Ummm, the only reason Portland doesn't have a WNBA team is because Paul Allen isn't interested. When we had a team in PDX, it did very well. Seattle's team does well too and helps the Pac-12 tournament. I do agree that the league will leave the tournament in Seattle unless there is a reason to move it. Great site with plenty of hotel rooms nearby. Went last year for the semis + finals and really enjoyed the stay. Of course the Beavs winning it all helps!
