OSUBeavers.com and all articless calling Drew a redshirt sophomore...He got medical waiver for last year? He did only play in 6 games (nice to be a pitcher in that way I guess?)....
This is potentially great news because in my head he was a Junior and was going to have to go pro this year basically....

His class status doesn't matter. He is 21 and my bet is that he will be gone after this season to the pros. Let's hope he rocks the Pac-12 like he did in 2015. I am so excited; this might be the deepest team we have had in a long time - just need the leadership on the team to step forward and we can go a long way!

I'm real curious if we even see Rasmussen pitch at all this year.

If Drew comes back for 2018 he has nothing to lose in bargaining position and everything to gain. He could be drafted much higher in June 2018 than in June 2017 after showing scouts that he is healthy, and he still has the option to come back to school for 2019 season, thus preserving his bargaining power.

This team is scary... good, but also big questions. As always the team deep in position players, but really our pitching staff is dependent on full recovery from major injuries and getting back to their former (or better in some cases) self. That, and no "sophomore slumps" from the guys who stood out last year. I am not a fan of all the arm injuries we've had and have some worries about some guys this year that I thought had a lot of wear and tear put on them because of the injuries last year. We definitely need more consistent offensive production throughout the lineup. My worry is that sometimes great depth can cause shuffling of kids in and out and kids have a tough time getting that "rhythm" from playing everyday. We definitely have the tools, but there is a lot of question marks also that playing games will soon help answer. That said, I'm not sure how anyone who knows the injuries/question marks we've had can think at his time we're a top 10 team. Personally for 'cosmetics' sake, I'd like to see us #19-25 and climbing as we grow. I hate being the Top 10 team that falls out of the Top 20 and then has to try to claw their way back (and out NL schedule will not help out much in the end). I think we are going to be a while finding out who we are on the mound. It is not like you can just pencil in 10+ wins from Fehmel again, Drew being the Ace he was, Martinek finding the strike zone, that Tweedt or a newcomer suddenly becomes a weekend guy. We'll soon see!!

We shuffled through so many pitchers last season I am not sure that any of them had a lot of wear and tear - after all I think Bryce averaged about 4 innings a game - I am optimistic based on the way our staff was coming together at the end of the season and the year's maturity. And I really think we are going to have solid offensive performance - just a happy fan right now, knock on wood.

We'll soon see!! I agree - you nailed one of my peeves. Sometimes PC plays the shuffle game so much early on in the year to find his line-up that it gets to the point where we look like an entirely different team from one day to the next. I get that he preaches mental toughness and that the kids need to be ready to compete any time any place, every at-bat, every pitch, but man - that can be rough. I know we're getting a lot of preseason hype, but I'm not sure I buy it just yet. I don't love our rotation for those reasons you've mentioned. But we always seem to find a way, usually someone makes a leap and it's usually someone I didn't expect. Reason #37 why I'm not a coach I guess.

I hate that If stuff, I much prefer the DID stuff. From a Fan Point of view Pitching, Pitching, Pitching. With this team, who the heck knows. Defense should be good to great. Strong up the Middle, really don't know if Cary is the A+ CF. I am guessing both a new Arm will surprise and at least 2 new guys surprise at the Plate. Now if someone can find a way to get KJ to hit or layoff a breaking ball, we might see some new Records.
Wish I could go to AZ to see thing get going. Dang....

Agreed that defense is very solid. On offense I think the keys will be if a.) Harrison can hit at or near like he did during his Freshman year (or late season Sophomore); b.) if Madrigal can continue at or near the torrid pace of his freshman season & c.) if Grenier can live up to his potential, which only showed flashes last season.
I am not as concerned about pitching, as some of the comments above. With a staff that includes: Heimlich, Martinek, Englebrecht, Tweedt, Church, Gambrell (high rated true-Frosh), Hickey, Fehmel, J. Thompson and Rasmussen (eventually?)...plus 6 other true freshman, at least one of whom will contribute if past history repeats - I gotta believe that pitching this year will be just fine.
Cannot wait for SURPRISE AZ !!!!!

Just about every team in the nation is in the same spot as the Beavs. These concerns about the rotation are the norm, coming into a season knowing your Friday-Saturday and a good guess at Sunday guys is not the norm. Not when you get these kids for such a short time. Honestly, OS has a lot of returning innings pitched on the roster. It will be a good staff.
