Using the Scout rankings, had he stuck with his commitment Nebraska's class would have edged out Penn State at 14th. Likewise WSU's class would have finished a spot or two behind ours instead of 4 spots ahead. That's not insignificant to fans at a place like Nebraska, but it does show how silly it all is when one flakey kid can have that kind of effect on a classes overall ranking. YES THIS! The rankings are UTTERLY stupid and meaningless! See here for more: bennyshouse.com/post/29828/threadPlus, it is a lot more convenient for the family to get to the games and see him play.

Plus, it is a lot more convenient for the family to get to the games and see him play. Pullman is more convenient to get to from L.A.? Sure conference road games will be in P12 vs B1G so that may have been a deciding factor, but he held offers from entire P12 minus Stanford. If convenience of travel was deciding factor he picked the most inconvenient option in the conference. Granted I'm assuming an 18 year old understands geography and that's a big assumption these days. Another consideration which makes no sense is WSU has 16 WR's on roster and 5 commits. Nebraska 11 and 3.

My sarcasm accent was disabled when I typed that comment. Sorry. I have been to Pullman many times and it is not easy to get to for sure. In a long ago day, we landed in a DC3 at Pullman International Airport which in those days had a pea gravel runway to complement the hill that had to be avoided on takeoff by a hard bank. Great country, bad travel location.

Cougs. But wait, there's more. One recruiting "expert" suggests he's likely to transfer to OSU within a year. LOL I wouldn't want him, now. That's the breaks, kid. I'd take him in a hot second. I haven't forgotten how excited I was when he put our hat on. I hope he transfers to OSU and I'm not ashamed to say it. Kid is crazy talented.

May not be easy but it can be done.

Great country, bad travel location. Off topic but, The DC3 -AKA the R4D (and many other designations) in WW ll was the original energizer easy shot. There are still many of these planes air worthy today. Lots of survivors because of the medical supplies and wounded Marines and Doggies shuffled about the islands in the Pacific. I sure didn't know they also landed in the Pirate's Palouse.

I'm talking airlines, one of the supposed issues for this kid's family was ability to travel to see games. For some people the 8 minute car rid to the university makes WSU easier to get to than the drive front Eugene to OSU. I'm not saying it's a major issue, but Pullman isn't the only tough town to fly into for most people. On the other hand, Eugene is seeing more and more direct flight destinations these days, it used to be pretty limited.

A couple years ago on a long forgotten message board, I did a google maps analysis of the airport distance angst problem. It turned out that OSU was mere minutes, maybe twelve?, farther away than the dux, and no farther than UW is from its "shared" SeaTac airport especially considering the congestion in a place like SeaTac and downtown Seattle. If distance to the airport is the deal breaker, then I say break the deal. I like GA's statement in another thread above--some people fit and some don't. If not, move on. Getting back on topic about the kid, I wish him well except when we play the Cougs. I especially want him to shine when the Cougs play the dux!!!

At least one can fly into Pullman these days. Wish we could say the same for Corvallis. Well.... yeah... sorta I am pretty sure the only flights to/from Pullman-Moscow Regional Airport are to/from Seattle, so no matter where you go or where you are coming from you have to go through Seattle, change planes etc. Plus cost goes up. What would you rather do... Direct Flight from LAX -> EUG -> 45 min drive (Flight about $350 right now) or Flights from LAX -> SEA -> PUW -> 10 minute drive (Flight about $450 right now) Not only is the flight to Seattle longer in time and distance, but then a plane change and another flight on a puddle jumper... No thanks. In fact I think a lot of teams still fly to Seattle and bus to Pullman, regardless of the presence of PUW.

When I fly out of Eugene, sure there is the 45 minute drive, but it is exactly that, never any traffic, and getting through the Eugene airport is a relative breeze. When my brother, who lives in Portland proper, flies out of PDX, there is STILL at least a 45 min drive, even though he lives less than 20 miles from the airport because of traffic, then he has to park, ride the shuttle, and get through a much larger airport... We may both be going to LAX or SFO, but my travel day is way easier...

You have all covered this but it is worth repeating. Eugene airport to OSU is (in minutes) about the same as LAX to USC and much quicker than LAX or ONT to the Rose Bowl. Burbank is similar to the Rose Bowl as EUG to OSU. I know charters fly into Corvallis although I don't think they can handle a football team sized plane.
