That *was* a nail biter. It felt like we came out a bit flat early.....
Kelly Graves had a good game plan. And he almost had the talent to execute it.
Pressure/double Wiese, don't let her get free for three - the amount of effort it took to get Wiese's 6 attempts was considerable!
Very grateful for Gabby's presence tonight - both holding down Ionescu, and her shooting.
I am usually hoping Gabby doesn't shoot too much as other guards are usually higher percentage shooters, but I love how the senior stepped up on a night when Tudor, Pivec, McWilliams and Kalmer were a collective 0-12.
Tudor has the quickest release around, but even she can rush shots, and she proved that tonight, for she had a couple of looks. Weird that Pivec, McWilliams and Kalmer would all go in a funk at the same time, perhaps their guards had something to do with it......
Our post players were getting pushed out a foot past their comfort zone, so their long jumpers weren't falling, though there seemed many times to be enough room to relocate forward with the dribble a foot or two as their posts would drop down (and in all fairness, we would go for the elbow jumped very late in the shot clock).
Our inbounding needs some work - we lost at least 2 or 3 inbound balls, and I was (pleasantly) surprised the ref didn't count to 5 faster on a couple of others.
You won't win many close games going 50% from the charity stripe, but we managed tonight. I was afraid to see what a "fouling for profit" endgame might look like tonight with our adventures at the stripe.
Apparently if you are dressed in ugly highlighter yellow the laws of physics don't allow you to set a moving screen......(as a biased Beaver fan, it felt like the calls were one sided [especially in the paint] but hard to grouse louder after a W).
The 'ucks definitely fed off their crowd early, I suspect the game narrative is going to be a bit different on Sunday morning in Gill. Good to get a W and have a lot of players who will be motivated to show better against the same opponent, and have the opportunity to do so.....
There ought to be a law against uniforms so bright and ugly.......
Beaver win, 'uck loss, good day - Beavers being the cause of the tsdtr loss, and it's a great day!!
Go Beavs!
