once Plum is gone. She's super talented, no doubt, but she's really all they have. Osafor does a lot of dirty work and scores her fair share but once they're both gone they better hope they're able to land another huge scorer or it's going to be a completely different program.
Go Beavs!!

Plum and Osahor account for a large percentage of their teams shooting and scoring (current 2016/17 totals). Players | FGA | FGM | Scoring | Plum/Osahor | 47% | 50% | 52% |
By comparison, OSU's top 2 seniors from last season accounted for a smaller % of the team totals (2015/16 totals). Players | FGA | FGM | Scoring | Weisner/Hamblin | 37% | 44% | 43% |
If we add in OSU's other graduating senior starter, the numbers become nearly identical. Players | FGA | FGM | Scoring | Wesiner/Hamblin/Hunter | 47% | 53% | 52% |
So the challenge that UW faces in replacing the offense from Plum and Osahor (2 very unique players) would appear to be substantially greater than OSU's challenge replacing their graduating Pac-12 POY and Pac-12 DPOY.

Assuming there isn't a bunch of Kolbie Orum-types waiting in the wings, UW's 2016 class consisted of one 4-star ESPN top 100 type (Aarion McDonald) and 3 3-stars, and the 2017 class so far has 2 3-star verbals www.espn.com/high-school/girls-basketball/recruiting/school/_/id/264/class/2016www.espn.com/high-school/girls-basketball/recruiting/school/_/id/264/class/2017Now, of course all of the disclaimers (Ruth "0 star" Hamblin) apply, and who knows about their transfer situation - but that said, it does seem like the Huskies might have a bit of downturn in coming years. I have been impressed with some of the young talent in the "lower echelon" Pac-12 teams this year, and when those freshmen become sophomores, it will be an interesting league. I also wonder how our Beavers are going to do - I see plenty of talent waiting in the wings, but the leadership of Wiese will be hard to replace (and I sure hope we don't have a MBB GPII sort of situation as a result). One could make the same argument about Plum/Osahor as well in terms of leadership. Go Beavs!

Rueck having a "MBB GPII" situation is the furthest thing from my concern, I can tell you that! Scott Rueck isn't some flash in the pan. That dude is arguably one of OSU's best coaches, regardless of sport gender. I think he's proven that. No doubt Wiese's leadership will be difficult to replace, and likely won't, but that doesn't mean that there isn't a player that we already have or will get that can take on that roll. But, yes, I get the concern over losing Wiese, she's a special, special young lady, basketball player, and leader!

While I agree with you that it will be harder for a "MBB GPII" scenario to emerge with coach SR at the helm, and I agree with our characterization of his coaching acumen (and in a few more years we may be considering him the best OSU BB coach *ever*), I do observe that there is a significant gap in the vocal, demonstrative leadership exhibited by Sydney versus the rest of the team. When the "second shift" is in (i.e. no Sydney) the team is much more stoic and quiet. Now some of that may be Sydney's personality and exuberance, but the situation with MBB has made me wonder how important vocal, demonstrative leadership can be to a team's winning ways......
I am sure SR will not let such a thing happen, but the only person (right now) with close to the same Sydney energy level seems to be Maddy Washington (among non seniors).
Go Beavs!

Losing Sydney is obviously significant. However most of the returning players have likely worn the mantle of primary leadership during their pre-OSU days, and I would expect one or more of them to step up in Sydney's absence. McWilliams will be a Junior. Brown and Gulich will be seniors. Current freshman candidates for leadership include Pivec, Washington, Tudor. It will in no way resemble a GPII situation.
...and now (updated) from the Tribune article about Pivec....Wiese speaking: "She (Pivec) doesn't play like a freshman. She's so poised, and has great body control. She leaves everything on the floor. She's out there, crashing, diving, doing whatever it takes. I'm thankful I get to play with her this year and see her grow as she's going to take over the leadership role next year."
