It's interesting to see how the variance among the various rating services as it relates to our currently committed players. Our 4 star players are as follows:
2017
Rivals: Craig Evans, Isaiah Hodgins, TJ Green
Scout: Isaiah Hodgins, David Morris
247: Isaiah Hodgins
ESPN: Kolby Taylor, Quantino Allen
I realize it's cherry picking, but the fact that we have 6 different players who are rated as 4 stars by at least one service is a big deal in my eyes. Compare that to prior years (see detail below) and you can see the difference in top rated talent in this class and our classes of the past few years. As can be seen below, the most comparative year in terms of top rate talent is 2007. Thing about 2007 is that only 3 of the 7 actually made it into school and/or made any lasting impression on this Beav fan in terms of playing and only 2 of them actually contributed (McCants was too slow of a starter). So, from 2007 through 2016, we had 28 players who were rated as 4 stars or better. Of those 28, 8 never qualified (1 of those 8 bounced back twice, Reggie Dunn), 1 (Peko) took three years to qualify, 2 (Wallace and Garcia) have yet to play for the team (delayed qualification, if we're lucky, which I'm hopeful), 4 medically retired (Hunt, Weinrich, Smith and Akuna (whether medical or otherwise, he never materialized and retire, I believe)), 1 (Lucas) just transferred and 1 is currently on a Mormon mission. 1 (Jarmon) is the only 4 star player from 2016 or prior that is still on the roster.

What's my point in all of the data above? We have 6 players rated 4 stars by some ranking in the 2017 class, which is just shy of 25% as many as the previous 10 years combined. It's almost 18% of our total 4 star players we've had in the past 11 years combined. Regardless of how we rank compared to the rest of the PAC or even the Power 5, that's a pretty impressive view of the top level talent in this class. One could argue (and I've seen it in another recent thread) that perhaps the ranking systems are getting more generous (which would make sense because that type of sensationalism would definitely help sell subscriptions), but I don't know how to gather the total 4 star numbers for each full class so I can't prove that out. No matter how you slice it, I think it's pretty clear we have some top rated talent in this class. Whether you attribute that to Anderson, the new facilities, the recruiting budget or something else, I find it pretty impressive. Now we just need to make sure we can hold onto the guys we have while hopefully pulling in a few more gems.2017
