What's strange is to NOT see Tennessee in the top 20! I noted that they had won 5 straight after a 4-4 start, before getting handled by #4 and undefeated Mississippi St. recently. They have had such a rich tradition of success that it's hard to imagine them ever not being in the top 10! Their tradition clearly drew Evina, who wanted to go back east to where women's college hoops is supposedly more high-profile. I think that they are resting on historical laurels, because while OSU was in the Final Four last season, Tennessee again was nowhere to be seen. I was happy to note that Springfield's Mercedes Russell was selected SEC player of the week last week and leads the Lady Vols in scoring and rebounding. I wondered if she'd made a mistake given how little impact she'd had up to this season. She was the #1 ranked recruit in the nation in her class 4 years ago, but injuries, etc. really limited her. I'm happy that she's finally able to get after it.

Interesting that 3 of Tennessee's starters are from the state of Oregon, yet these locally developed products are not having near the team success at a historical power on the other side of the country.

The more time that passes the more I hear the Westbrook may not be the player she is lauded to be. I heard it here and then in a separate setting, a conversation with someone that had personally seen her play that she was selfish with the ball and just not very impressive. It's sounding like we shouldn't be too upset she didn't sign with us. Time will tell, I guess. In spite of this, I'd really like to see SR start to close the deal on some big time blue chippers. I have no doubt he will. That dude is a straight-up coaching stud, even at 5'4". Go Beavs!!
