Take note Villy. Probably Hawkins and Hunter too.

Woe! With the treasure trove of WR talent Coach A is amassing, he'd better sign Tom Brady's clone....

Angie Machado lists Short as 6'1" & 195 & runs the 40 in the 4,3-4.4 range..http://www.scout.com/college/oregon-state/story/1744254-wide-receiver-aaron-short-is-osu-bound

No offense to Angie, but until I see him routinely breaking free and pulling away from DB's on the field, I'll find the 4.3 to 4.4 range hard to buy. The most reliable measures known to man; reported 40 times and fish sizes :-) Put an official scale to a fish and it's funny how it so often comes in underweight(wink wink). Put an official time to a reported 4.3 to 4.4, 40 guy and you typically get the same result. There are always exceptions though.

Yes, Paul Lucas supposedly had game-breaking speed, but I never saw it in games. I did see him get run down by a linebacker on a long run, though. Never heard anyone claim Nall was a speed-merchant, but I have seen him outrun entire defensive backfields more than once. Brandin Cooks' NFL.com pre-combine scouting report listed top-end speed as one of his weaknesses, yet he recorded the fastest WR 40 in the draft. Fact is, even the supposedly 'knowledgeable" people are often just talking out of their asses when it comes to a players speed.

He also had surgery 2 days later. The LB wouldn't have caught a healthy Lucas.

I understand why 40 times, as unreliable as they are, are thrown out there all the time. They get consumed by fans and can generate excitement in a player. I guess that's fine and part of the deal. I just personally find them less reliable than a North Korean missile treaty or French automobile.

"Academics, I put myself in a hole, but luckily I was able to get myself out," he explained. "What changed it was my Oregon State (camp). I really didn't have many schools looking at me at that time. I ran the 40 and Oregon State coaches approached me."
This makes me nervous. Great, he's fast. You can't teach speed. But count me among the people who want a guy that can...you know...play football over athletes. Looks like he missed about half the season this year (don't know if it was an injury or grades), but he averaged 3 catches for 42 yards in the six games he played this season. Plus side, more than 1/3 of his catches went for TDs.

"Short injured his knee this season, and while the injury wasn't serious (no tears), his coach knew that he had the talent to go on to the next level and didn't him to injure himself further." I think the bigger concern is him maintaining his eligibility by getting it done in the classroom.

Another positive post from Smiley's boy. Look at it this way man......if you read a story about a kid saying nobody was looking at him, and then Mike Riley offered based on watching him run the 40, what would your reaction be? "Oh look at Smiley, going after another diamond in the rough."
