I know she is just back from a broken thumb last night vs Stanford, but, in watching both girls, I am much, much more impressed with Mikayla. Ionescu reminds me a little of Plum - throws up a lot of shots, lots of turnovers, does not seem to have her teamates backs ( although she does rack up some reasonable assist numbers),and overall just seems to be always forcing things. Mikayla, is all about the team and plays totally under control. They are both freshmen, of course, but I would say that Ms Pivec is living up to her billing and improving game by game. Sabrina is up and down. Last observation is that, to this point, the tougher the competition - the tougher Mikayla plays. Too early to see that with SI. I am glad that we got Mikayla.

I will say this, watching Sabrina I. She can create her own shot to an unusual degree. She's an impressive player and it's easy to understand why all the teams wanted her.
I'll hold off on drawing any comparisons. I remember all of the endless comparisons between Derek Anderson and Kellen Clemens and in the end there was much more heat generated than light.

Although their styles have been developed over the years, the major difference that is very noticeable to me... who they play for. Both are very much an image of their HC. Sabrina plays a gym rat, more selfish game, and shows much more visible emotion... ala her AH of a coach. She will have some big games and draw some accolades... but that team will never reach the heights and integrity of OSU. Pivec is the epitome of SR and Beaver women's basketball... selfless, composed, able to step it up in the biggest of moments, and always under control physically and emotionally. It's why she not SI was the best fit... and the same reason Westbrook is not a huge loss. SR will get his players here and they have proven they are all of the above and more.

I agree. Hard to pull any definite comparisons after 1 game. And sabrina coming off an injury. Heck she may still be feeling the effects. It was just interesting to watch them in back to back games last night

That's the same impression I've come away with after observing there short term style and personality. They both seem to be with the coach/school that fits them.

If Sabrina had come here, we'd all be saying that she's such a wonderful playmaker and praising her coachability. Her best stat is Assists - she's #32 in the country in assists-per-game. She's just following the coach's game plan, and if she takes a few more "questionable" shots than Mik, then I guarantee you it's because her coach told her, "Go for it. There's nobody better on this team."
Actually, from what I've heard, I suspect coach told her, "Shoot the f#$%#$% ball. Your @#@#%$#$ teammates aren't worth a !@#$@#$."

Actually, from what I've heard, I suspect coach told her, "Shoot the f#$%#$% ball. Your @#@#%$#$ teammates aren't worth a !@#$@#$." I am left to wonder if Coach SR even swears.....never caught anything by lip reading..... More seriously, I do think Ionsecu is very talented. She has 2 triple-doubles already this year. But since we did not convince her that coming to OSU was the most mutually beneficial arrangement, I don't worry that much about her, or whether Mik is better or worse than her. We have our team, and then there are a bunch of opponents. Sabrina is filed under "opponent", though I think she will be (and is) an opponent to reckon with. But Mikayla is bringing to light the fact that highly rated players are something special, somehow, someway, and the more of them we can get the better. We can debate whether Mik should have been higher than the #24 she was on Hoop Gurlz or whether Sabrina should have been lower, but they are both special. But only one of them is ours. And I sure wish Westbrook would have headed this way as well (though some have observed here that we may have gotten a better deal by signing Goodman). Maybe a couple more Final Four runs will convince these kind of highly rated types otherwise, but I think some of these highly rated kids are not attracted to our program, campus, community or coaches......and that is probably OK as well. Because I think the chemistry we have here is something special as well.......at which points your observations on SI might be quite relevant as well. Oh, although I do hope SI doesn't do very well this year: 1) she is an 'uck, and 2) she could pose competition to Mikayla getting Pac-12 Freshman of the Year........ :-) Go Beavs!
