...seem like such a great defensive accomplishment. But when you consider that she takes 40% of her team's entire shot total (23/58) UW won't win too many games this year when Plum scores below 25. She's their horse and they're riding her as far as she'll take them.

She's their horse and they're riding her as far as she'll take them. And unless Pac12 referees are going to give her the "James Harden treatment" and send her to the line every time she doesn't score she's in for a lot more 22 point nights than 33. She got away with some obvious walks and carries (especially when forcing her right), and and some touch fouls where she initiated all the contact. I believe 7 of her last 11 were just bogus calls/non-calls. Here's hoping a 12-6/5th place finish shuts them up.

Agreed - it seems like UW is an easy team to gameplan for (in theory, anyway). They have an amazing scorer (through sheer volume if not accuracy), and a great rebounder. Contain them, and you are good. No one else on their team left a great impression (though the transfer from Nebraska [we were after her too] has gone off in some games, I think).
I think we would have been even better served NOT playing off of Osaher (sp?) - she didn't seem as effective when driving, though that may have been our help defense.... Didn't notice much of a back-to-the-basket game from her. She only hurt us beyond the arc. But maybe we wanted her out there so she was kept off the boards.
Go Beavs!

Not only that, but I was BEGGING for her last 3 to not go in. Would have loved to see her finish under 20pts for the game. With scorers, it seems the best bet is to try to contain them, or let them go off and not let the rest of the team beat you. Whatever the game plan/strategy SR and his staff goes into UW games with, it seems to work. UW will beat a lot of teams this year, glad we got the W in our 1 scheduled game.

In 7 career games versus Oregon State Plum's FG% is .361 (48-133) for 20.8 PPG. Against all other competition her FG% is .431 (868-2015) for 24.8 PPG. So the Beavs have done a very good job of making her work extra hard for less output. A lot of the success slowing her down probably goes to Gabi Hanson.

It is a Team sport. It took a team effort. That said, the Beavs are 6-1 against Washington in Plum's time. The only loss was the only game Gabby Hanson did not play in. She is Plum's Kryptonite!

I would also say that since Coach SR coached Plum on some of the international summer teams, he has also gained some good insights into her tendencies........and then having someone of Gabby's caliber available to counter those tendencies is great.
I think for us to be successful over the long haul this season, however, Gabby needs to get out of her shooting slump (while the two missed free throws at the end could have been exhaustion, they would have really sealed the outcome of the game, and a senior starter really needs to hit at least 1 of 2 in that situation). It was nice to see Gabby drive when she had the lane during the game and not keep chucking it from the arc (though she must have the green light to do so, and I suspect she will need to shoot her way out of the slump). I also wonder on occasion if we are looking at a slump or something else - her accuracy has consistently dropped from year to year from the floor and the line, and I wonder why.....
Go Beavs!
