against USC: 5-11 field goals, 5-6 ft, 15 points, 15 rebounds, 1 block, 0 to, 40 minutes against UCLA: 6-12 fg, 6-8 ft, 18 points, 9 rebounds, 1 block, 2 to, 3 steals, 35 minutes
There has been a lot of posts on this board of folks bemoaning Eubanks. Not in the future, but right now - currently, he is a huge talent. I think some people think he's not Bill Russell, Hakeem Olajuwon, or Kevin Durant (depending on your age) so he's not good enough. My thought is that we should enjoy this era and his ability. We will miss him enormously when he moves on.

You already know who they are. The coaches have done a good job bringing out the fight in Drew this season. He has turned the corner and knows how to assert himself now. He is starting to leverage his abilities consistently but the big thing for him is to keep his feet moving on D so he can get to spots on time to play neutral D and avoid fouls. His learning curve was steeper because he didn't play b ball early in his life and he has looked lost on D sometimes, always reacting instead of anticipating. But the improvement is there. That steal in the lane against the Bruins the other night was a natural quick reaction of instincts and reflex. He just needs to continue to avoid getting his feet "stuck" on D. On offense he has locked down that rolling hook shot and can even go the other way with it. I would like to see him work in a pump fake and spin. He has such a solid base he can exploit most of the bigs he will face if he gets more savvy about getting in position for an entry pass.

Drew has steadily improved... to me and from WTs veiled comments I'm thinking a lot was in his "coachability". He seemed very high strung and dismissive much of last season, especially when he faced better level talent.
He seems to have a highly competitive personality that he has begun to channel in more positive ways. I also believe he was a little immature (hoops experience and mentality) and fell in love with some press and early successes versus weaker competition. I think his lack of Pac12 success, the summer trip, and maturity has begun to light a fire in him, rather the old negative anger and sulking.
Drew is still rather limited offensively, especially in a double team and his face up game, but he has improved in the one area that counts... being coachable. As long as that continues he'll get better and better.
*my main concern is we seem to not be recruiting any other "bigs" of his caliber or better. Even a athletic "project", which I classified Drew as in terms of D1 readiness, is no where to be found. You'd think this next class has to have 1-2 as DE and GR are juniors next year.

He simply has to get the balll in a position to score. To date he can't control the ball and make a move. It will come with practice, effort and experience. Great athlete, average post player today. Good thing is he won't leave early so as a senior I see him as one of the top bigs in the conference.

Does Jack Wilson 7' 1" 250# class of 2018 commit qualify as the type of recruit you are thinking of? He is a 4 star top 100 recruit.

We've not had great luck lately with healthy bigs. Snd signing day for 2018 class is a ways off... I'd like to have more than one committed.

If you compare him to Leaf, yes, Leaf is clearly better - but also a different player. I see Leaf evolving to a 3-4 and he is likely a top ten pick in the draft this year. Currently I'd say Eubanks is equal to Metu at USC. I have not seen enough of the rest of the league to compare. Sorry, my thoughts are disjointed here, but Eubanks clearly does make moves off the low block (sweeping or jump hook) and he's even gone left a few times.

I just wish Jack Wilson could somehow graduate a year earlier, or that Coach T could find another kid that's a high caliber 6'10"+ for this fall.
It'd be nice to have at least 1 year with 2 quality big kids under the hoop. I do think Big G is developing quite nicely but I don't think he'll be up to the level Eubanks or Wilson will end at by the yime they finish up here.

Not comparing specifically but when Eubanks get the ball out of position it more often than not a turnover A comparison, if necessary. Boucher at UO, let is a big who can create, pass and has a true face up game and can hit the jumper. Or the mouthy tall blonde kid from Stanford Or Ivan Rabb Josh Hawkinson has a more complete offensive game but no where near the athleticism.
