Still tons of crap/unforced to's... and no idea why WT thinks Stevie can go 1 on 5 to get a shot...but, best half of hoops (basically on the D end) I've witnessed versus the best team we've faced.

Some good looking offense from Eubanks but that guy cannot have the ball in his possession for over 4 seconds nothing good happens then. Kone will be good when that leg is 100. Rebounds strong with strong hands just a little slow right now. McLaughlin just isn't ready to initiate the offense but will be. Thompson well they are riding their best player

Lol... not sure we have a forced TO... we just hand it away... or toss it OB... or... really a great opportunity for an upset even.playing below average ball (but above the level we've been at)...
Really played better in D end.

"OMG! Hell hath frozen over!!"
Nope. Not yet. I think that is scheduled for Thursday.
But I do agree with baseball111, or whatever he calls himself. Sitting in Gill, or watching on television, or clicking the Russian media, it was obvious to us all when Wayne Tinkle said, "Stephen, go one on five. I'm desperate and I have no idea what I'm doing."

upgrade sort of: playing almost up to the level of good competition instead of playing below the level of inferior teams.
the team is developing in some areas- better rotation on D, better spot up shooting. Some of you don't see it but Eubanks is a dynamic big, he can block shots, rebound, and score. Stevie's shot is coming around. Tres looked good on the bench last night with good flow in his hair. This is a 3 or 4 win conference team when it gets going.

The last couple of games Eubanks has shown the ability to disrupt opposing teams AND stay out of foul troubles while doing it. Well done.

I was referring to baseball's last sentence. Down right positive.

Sitting in Gill, or watching on television, or clicking the Russian media, it was obvious to us all when Wayne Tinkle said, "Stephen, go one on five. I'm desperate and I have no idea what I'm doing." I (kind of) disagree. There was a definite gameplan to slow UCLA down. Any time game play sped up, Ball would get an easy bucket, or throw a lob to Leaf, or Hamilton or Alford would get a transition 3. The dribbling up top was just a way to burn clock...and for the most part UCLA was content to let us waste time and not force us out of it. at about 14 seconds or so, Eubanks or another big would come set a pick, and then it was on Stevie to create. It wasn't elegant, but it was effective in keeping us in the game as long as Stevie made a good decision, which for the most part, he did. The few times he got stripped or made an ill advised shot, UCLA went on a mini spurt that kept the game out of reach for the most part. I thought it was a solid game plan against a team far more talented than us. Defensively, we did the best we could, but there were a few lapses that absolutely cost us. One memorable one was Tinkle substituting Sanders in late in the first half, and on the ensuing inbounds play, Sanders was caught unaware and left a guy wide open in the corner. UCLA made us pay for every mistake, which is was good teams do. The only thing that concerned me was the amount of times in the first half I heard Tinkle yelling at guys to get into a certain position on the offensive end, or to wait before setting a screen, or some other procedural thing. It was almost as if we were still trying to understand our own plays two months into the season. That definitely seemed to be an issue that may have led to the "Stevie off the high ball screen" offense of the second half. I thought the coaches did quite a bit to keep us in that game as best they could.

Walkons have been really ineffective this year unlike 2 years ago where they helped a little.

Walkons have been really ineffective this year unlike 2 years ago where they helped a little. I thought Dahlen was serviceable in 14 minutes. 3 boards & 2 blocks. I count him as a walk on although I "think" he got a scholly. Didn't Muller get a triple vs USC? I was actually surprised to see Dahlen contributing as he hasn't done much this year

Agree about Dahlen. I wish he had been concentrating on basketball the last few years. Athletically, he is better than I thought.

That definitely seemed to be an issue that may have led to the "Stevie off the high ball screen" offense of the second half. I thought the coaches did quite a bit to keep us in that game as best they could. ^^^^ This is actually the biggest concern I have had this season: you would think the team is experienced enough with WT's offensive concepts to not require Tinkle to direct (in minute detail) where he wants whom.........or you would think that there are enough 2nd and 3rd year players *on* the court to do some of the directing of traffic. What I have seen this year is WT doing all the direction from the bench. I initially thought this was a non-conference season "on the job" training program going on, but it has not subsided. While it is great to see the coach so engaged in every offensive series, it has left me quite worried about the basketball IQs, leadership, the confidence levels, what might be happening on the defensive end, etc. etc. I contrast this (perhaps unfairly) with what is going on with Rueck's teams: almost since day 1 the players were passing to spots on the floor, regardless of which players were on the floor......he put a system in place, and the players just run it. More questions than answers right now for me regarding the men's team this year...... Go Beavs!
