Taylor Kalmer is pretty good shooter too. Always thought of her as a younger Jamie W. but has been injured this year.

Hopefully it's more than one game because unless we start getting 25+ / 15+ from our inside people, living and dying from the outside will not bode well in this year's Pac 12. Teams are very athletic and we're not going to get a lot of open looks if we do not have an inside game to make some teams at least respect us enough to collapse. With the talent in the league we might have to score 70+ to go 9-9... it's going to be a battle and may come down to which team stays the most healthy during the grind. Begin Friday... no looking ahead ladies... WSU is a must win home game. Go Beavs...

I'm not following your logic there, baseba1111. We need the outside shooters to catch fire because in the athletic Pac-12 a team can't just depend on outside shooting?
I don't think you are wrong regarding the need for inside scoring, but I see Maria and Bree (and Kolbie) equal to the task. What bothers me is that we haven't been consistent with the third sort of attack - driving the lane and the give-and-go. Gabby has always been willing to drive the baseline, Mik seems born to slash through the lane, but sometimes it seems like Sydney is waiting for Jaime Weisner to handle that duty. As for Katie, she is too content to pull up and take the 15-ft jumper - probably because at 6'2" there aren't many guards that can do more than wave at her while she does it. We finally started to see a decent amount of outside-in aggression against the other OSU - I hope that was the start of a trend.

I didn't read 111's response because I've blocked his posts (like Hamblin). But I don't see how my initial post could stir up controversy. I merely said we have 4 great shooting guards and that likely there will be a game this season where all 4 go off and that would be a fun night. Seems pretty non-controversial to me.

I am hoping we have a couple of games where everyone does catch fire from the outside....... We really haven't had that thus far - seems like every game we are getting the "hot hand" raining down the threes while the rest of the team has a pedestrian three point night. Luckily we have had the "hot hand" (other than Marquette - where actually we also did have the hot hand (Kat) but she didn't take the last shot that night). I do anticipate a night (I think your point) where the hot hand is contagious and we go off like the first half of the UCLA Pac-12 tourney game last year.....against Washington on New Year's day would be a lovely place to start. Or even Wazzu..... No gimmes now. Go Beavs!

And to the other super "positive posers" there was no controversy... just stating that I hope it happens more than one game as our inside game hasn't shown enough to gain a lot of respect. The league is too good/athletic to have one dimension on offense... teams will run us off the 3 pt line and make us beat them some other way. Hence, we'll need 3-4 scorers from midrange or drives. Being much harder to run a team off the line if you have a consistent inside presence. Just expanding the original post.

I didn't mean to stir anything up with my comment, baseba1111. I just didn't think you expressed your point very well. But I'd rather talk about basketball than rhetoric.
My armchair analysis says that there are four ways to score. 1. outside shots from the outside game 2. outside shots from the inside game 3. inside shots from passes. 4. inside shots from drives
The more of these you have working, the better the results. (I am such a genius. I don't know why they don't let me coach!)
My assessment of our performance in these three areas is:
1. Kat, Syd, Mik, Katie and Gabby have this covered. 2. Not really a strength for us. We get a little of this from Syd and Gabby, driving and dishing. We don't get much of this from our bigs, although Marie is improving. 3. This has been improving steadily. Bree is really coming along, and had a very good game at OkSt and dominated A-PB (for what that's worth). 4. This has also been improving, but this is where I think Katie has to step up and stop settling for jumpers and Syd has to keep her rockets lit for 40 minutes.
I'd love to see a breakdown of our shot locations, but I'd wager that right now we're getting well more than half of our scoring from straight-up outside shooting. I'd like to see a lot more balance than that. The good news is that our defense is averaging 51.8 ppg, so we don't need the bigs to score 30 points every game. If we get 20-25 points and 5 assists from the bigs, plus the same numbers off of dribble-drives by the guards, we'll win a heck of a lot of games.

I think part of the reason is that Plum girl is very hatable. She's kind of a dirty player: she likes throwing elbows and always seems give a little extra curricular after-the-whistle. If she weren't a good player, it would be easy to ignore, but she makes a good villain.
