Beavs won a tough won over Vegas in Vegas, 62-59. Wasn't decided until LATE. Thank the good Lord for Syd Wiese. She wound up with 25. Memo to rest of team; she could use some help offensively. Go Beavs!!

Go Beavs!! 1. Love seeing the freshman Pivec sinking those 2 CLUTCH free throws. 2. UNLV has gotta be regretting those 2 blown 4th quarter layups on breakaways.

UNLV probably wins this game if their starting point guard doesn't go down early in the third.... They did well until the end, where in crunch time they made some crucial ball handling mistakes (and blew some easy shots) that sealed the deal.
UNLV did lay out a blueprint of how to challenge the Beavers - pay extra attention to Wiese, hedge out on her, push her a foot further away from the arc, make the rest of the team beat you.
On a night that wasn't Kat Tudor's night, it almost worked.
We had some starters who turned in some fairly unproductive minutes in this game. We won't beat many teams with three starters that each went for 20 minutes and each had about 2 points and accounted for a third of the team's TOs.
We also need to get better about inbounding, and our spacing in the paint most of the night was not great. That said, some of that was UNLV playing some tough D (they look like a good, well-coached team).
I had gotten accustomed to Wiesner, Hunter and Hamblin securing rebounds with authority if they came their way.......granted, they were 3 of the top-10 all time Beaver rebounders, but I am still getting used to our tendency this year to bat the rebound around a bit before securing it.
Good game for us - great opportunity to identify some areas that Pac-12 teams would really burn us on. And I loved Pivec's game! She is looking more like a starter every game to me.....
Go Beavs!

I was prepared for the true frosh to feel the pressure, but she handled it like a veteran. Impressive.

betcha can't spell Quinnipiac (our opponent tonight) I can spell it. I just can't pronounce it. My safest bet is to listen to how Ron Callan pronounces it and pronounce it the other way.

Beavs behind early, can't hit anything right now, they can't miss. We are laying lots of bricks.

Gabby plays great defense, but is now liability on Offense, just not even close, and the usual too many TO's. Up by 3, ought to be 20!! This is not a good team they're playing, we should be blowing them out but we're pretty sloppy right now/.

Ron's got some fall back phrases that get tiresome. I enjoy Ron and his call. But, can we work "shoots from 15 goes 16" in a little more? Or call out the opponents number while he looks at his call sheet for the name? Hey, he's still better than Jerrah
