Ladies prevail 60-49. Outscored the spud vandals 35-18 in the second half. Opinion....these ladies are learning to play together w/o some great players of the past few years. It's now up to THEM..big shoes to fill. They'll be fine.

It could be the road, could be it's Hawaii, could be were young and inexperienced/lost a lot of toughness/talent... could be all three. But, Vandals were slapped by UW by 50+... yikes. Could be long hoops season in comparison to last year's Men and Women's run to post season.

I enjoy how osu's rise to being good by a "figure head" eats you up inside. The beavs aren't falling from being good anytime soon, but you may get a civil war win at TTATT. But will those duck freshmen know what kind of crowd awaits then at gill? Graves thought it was going to be easy, it's OSU after all, right?

I like this team's competitiveness. I think they are still working out some roles and exactly how they replace the lost O and D production from Jamie and Ruth (arguably the 2 best OSU WBB players ever). But there is good Senior leadership from Syd and Gabby and a lot of talent and fire from the freshman group. I don't expect them to win the conference this year but I think everyone who plays the Beavs, including UW, UCLA and Stanford had better come with their best game.

Someone needs to send a message to Rueck: Play Tudor! She's a quick defensive player and has an absolutely devastating outside shot. She should be starting over Gabby who has trouble hitting a layup. When I see this team missing 3 pointers, one after another, and our top 3-point shooter on the bench, I fail to comprehend what the coaches are thinking. Stop rewarding seniority over talent!!!!

Gabby is a premiere defender. Shut down UW's Plum, UCLA's Canada and Baylor's Alexis Jones. She's battle-tested, if you will. Tudor is 6 games into her true freshman year. She will get her opportunities. Rueck knows what he has.

When I see this team missing 3 pointers, one after another, and our top 3-point shooter on the bench, I fail to comprehend what the coaches are thinking. Stop rewarding seniority over talent!!!! I am intrigued to see how our starting lineup evolves over the season (and next).....with very high ranking, talented players coming in, we will see if coach is "rewarding seniority over talent". I am impressed with Taylor Kalmer's return - apparently her work ethic is like Jamie's - and she deserves minutes as well. You are right about Tudor. Tudor also seems to have good court vision (her drive and dish to Bre against Lamar was a thing of beauty - most of our players would have crashed into their defender and earned a charge). And I think Gabby is better suited to the "6th woman" role - she injects a ton of energy when she comes in off the bench, but she is currently in a shooting slump and not shooting above .375 in any department (FTs included). That said, we likely would have lost to Baylor last year without her shooting, and I am told she is our best defensive player (and she does have the second most steals on the team), so I figure Scott Rueck knows what he is doing...... Fun to watch, regardless.... Go Beavs!!

I welcome your astute observations. A word of advice, however: Your chosen moniker "squonk" contributes little to your credibility! Signed: ThickHead

Thankfully, that doesn't disqualify one from posting on message boards. squonk > thickhead FWIW, "thickhead" is a name chosen to invite all deserved ridicule and whose meaning is unambiguously without character or intelligence. However, the name "squonk", has a mythic dimension: Squonk, per Wikipedia: "The Squonk is a mythical creature reputed to live in the Hemlock forests of northern Pennsylvania. Legends of squonks probably originated in the late nineteenth century, at the height of Pennsylvania's importance in the timber industry. The legend holds that the creature's skin is ill-fitting, being covered with warts and other blemishes and that because it is ashamed of its appearance, it hides from plain sight and spends much of its time weeping.[2] Hunters who have attempted to catch squonks have found that the creature is capable of evading capture by dissolving completely into a pool of tears and bubbles when cornered. A certain J.P. Wentling is supposed to have coaxed one into a bag, which, while he was carrying it home suddenly lightened. On inspection, he found that the bag contained only the liquid remains of the sad animal."
