I've seen this at UCLA for years and years with every coach being compared to John Wooden. After Wooden came Gene Bartow, who lasted 2 years and went 52-9 an .852 winning percentage, higher than Wooden's .808. Bartow left the most successful college program in history because of fan criticism to become the AD at UA-Birmingham. Next up was Gary Cunningham who lasted 2 years at 50-8 and .862, the best winning percentage of ANY UCLA head coach. He didn't feel the pressure like Bartow, he just wanted to be behind a desk and left UCLA to become AD at Western Oregon. Next up was Larry Brown who lasted 2 years at 42-17 and .712. He left UCLA on probation and moved on after JD Morgan passed on.
All the next coaches, Larry Farmer, Walt Hazzard, Jim Harrick, Steve Lavin, and Ben Howland all had winning records, and ALL were fired. Steve Alford? Who knows?
Any coach who takes the oregon duck job should expect to be compared to Chip Kelly. Good luck.

Without Willie Lyles on payroll, USC on probation, fanciest locker room in football (college or pro), new hurry up offense which was a mystery to defend, ask Banker, and a Heisman winning qb, etc. it will never be duplicated. uck fans, administration, and ownership are all delusional!

I would say expectations are so high now at oregon, no coach is ever going to achieve it. I mean, they think and act like their alabama but they only have big game losses to show for it. Expectations and Reality are parallel lines for that program.

I really hope they get a Saban or a Pete Carroll.
It makes the beavs better. If you believe the beavs can compete for the Rose Bowl you want to always have that challenge right there in your face. Beavs have to do it on their own merits, not just pro rated for how crappy *they* are. I say bring it on.

Phil Knight >>>>>> more cash than a contractor! It was a lot cheaper to buy a team back then, and this guy was willing to spend a lot more of his own money relative to what amounts to PK's recreational money for his school. They won a lot of national championships too.

Wooden was a GREAT coach. If you refuse to acknowledge that then you either never saw his teams play or are just willfully ignorant.
And every team in the PCC/Pac-8 had their version of Sam Gilbert (including OSC's own Slats Gill).

The pyramid to success is actually a triangle, but but but but i don't want to get into an argument with the greatest dead salesman this side of Kansas. I would rather hang out and listen why Arizona is a destination and the Fire (This or That coach) posts. Idiots abound.
But Phil has other things to look out for. Adidas is moving 150 jobs from Boston to Portland. Apparently "Track Town USA" is still Eugene, but also apparently, if you want to hire someone good, you don't make them move out of the neighborhood. Adidas vs Nike is heating up.
