Go Beavs and Go Warriors. What a great day! Was the radio correct... 1st team state championship? I thought football had a championship (tie) in the Yates/Morris era?

Yep. Lost in 81 and 82. The "Yates and Morris" Sophomore and Jr. years. They were both great players, but we had A LOT of really fine players then. The next season we outscored teams by an average of 40+ points, got cocky, and lost to a good Tigard team in the semis. Had some good teams under coach Don Tomlin, but never reached the pinnacle. Very cool that his son, Ty guided them there! His Dad is an assistant...

One of the linebackers, Jeff Loomis, was planning to go to Oregon State and walk-on. He wasn't recruited much for football I think because he played basketball and had major league interest as a left-handed pitcher (before a shoulder injury). Second hand, I was told that Thurman Bell contacted Jim Waldon at WSU and sent him game tape. Waldon liked what he saw but didnt understand why no one was recruiting him. Waldon assumed academic issues - turns out Loomis was salutatorian and probably would have been accepted to Stanford. Anyway, he had moderate success at WSU and was probably limited because he was switched between tight end and linebacker several times.

As a Wilsonville grad, I can honestly say that this result had zero effect on my enjoyment of a Civil War victory.
