Guess if you want to be a major-leaguer it helps if you can hit major league pitching. Career MLB stats of: batting = .195, hr = 4, rbi = 17, 42 hits, 26 runs, 215 at-bats. Relegated to playing in Japan. LINK: Romero Released.

Just as well. He was out of minor league options. He had to make the team next year or he would be released. It was apparent he wasn't in their plans going forward with all of the moves made by the current Genereal Manager. The team gave him his release now so he could go somewhere else. I don't know if he was out of minor league options with Seattle that it mean't he was out of options with all other teams. Could be why he is looking at Japan. I don't know the rules. There were a lot of scouts who felt he needed consistent at bats instead of sporadic at bats. There was also some who thought he was a tweener. Will never know but I think he wasn't given a good chance the last few years. He said he learned to be more patient at the plate after his debut year in 2014(? ) He is only 28 so maybe he will have another chance after Japan if he chooses. You can make pretty good money playing in Japan.

Anyone who puts him on their MLB roster would have to subject him to waivers to drop him back to the minors. At this point, being 28 years old and with limited success in MLB - you're just not going to get a lot of looks from a lot of teams unless you are a LHP or a good defensive middle infielder. Old outfielders with little pop in their bats are not in limited supply. Tim Tebow is going to learn that lesson real soon.
