This isn't exactly Kansas vs Duke. Really really shows how the elite teams are so much superior. When none of your players would crack their top 8-10 and we think we've had great recruiting classes! It's why I love NCAA tourney... teams like us have a one game chance versus an elite team by making the field. In football I doubt we'll ever be in the final 4 conversations. Takes a lot of talent, luck, and be favored in the eyes of the committee.

This team misses the stability of Malcolm Duvivier and the spark of Derrick Bruce, both of whom should/could have been part of the team. Our depth is razor-thin right now.

Hopefully this can be one of those games like when OSU lost to Western Oregon in the exhibition game a couple seasons back..might have been best thing for that team as they then bought in to what coach was telling them..Coach Tinkle even said last game that they are not at the stage yet where they can just show up and expect to win.

If we end up a bubble team - this right here is a resume killer. But thankfully there's a whole lot of basketball to be played. Need to get better quickly.

I can't find a way to rationalize this abortion of a loss. I know how bad Lamar really is

I find it interesting that there are walk-ons out there in crunch time. Are we that shallow in terms of players? Are the players recruited to those positions so low on their learning curves? Are those walk on players that far ahead? (NOTE: I have absolutely nothing against the walk ons, they are to be admired for their effort and the fact they have put themselves in a position in coachs' book to have that level of trust, this is more a statement about the non-walkons) Or is this just an attribute of all the injuries at G and F that we have?
Also, along with poor ball security, defense, rebounding, ball handling, play making, fire, etc. etc. other concerns surfaced..... We had no heady leadership, that floor general, out there tonight. We were not communicating well (exhibit A: two Beavers fighting for a rebound long enough to let a Lamar player step in and create a jump ball) We had some real poor shot selection (ex: one walk on taking an ill-advised 3 about 10 seconds into the shot clock. Getting a stat is good, but getting a good shot over a shot that will be there later in the clock usually better). With some of our bigs, I still wince at how they appear to go after rebounds like the ball is made of glass, not this leather thing to be snatched away from the enemy with authority and snarling attitude. And this against a undersized team, there are ball-hawking rebounders in the Pac-12 that will make the contrast readily apparent. Our passing was not crisp tonight, and Ralph Miller would not appreciate the several low bounce passes to bigs as opposed to putting it high.....not to speak of the number of slightly off target (or worse) passes that we had. You don't get a bazillion turnovers like we had tonight with crisp passing.
I will only name Tres by name not to call out, but to express concern that he is still getting his sea legs under him and this "many games in few days" week may not do him any favors - he looked positively flat-footed out there at the end of the game. I hope and pray it is just needing to rebuild stamina and not that foot...... OK - I will name one other player by name, but he wasn't even out there - Stevie Thompson was a vital cog last season, hope that "hot spot" is just that, but I was musing whether his presence alone would have cured ALL the ills we displayed tonight and didn't like the conclusion I was coming to....
Hard to put lipstick on this pig. I will hopefully attribute it to youth, injury, and "early in the season" that we could play (somewhat) well the other night and so poorly tonight, but there can be other root causes to such inconsistency and that is worrisome.... And a Pac-12 team would have beaten us incredibly soundly tonight, and I am talking about Pac-12 teams at this point in the season's trajectory, not projecting ahead. Maybe the prognosticators weren't wearing my Orange colored glasses when they voted us to finish 9th. Play like tonight, and achieving *that* would be a minor miracle.
Now I am very interested to see how we come out against the Wolfpack. Do we take this performance personally? Good indicator of team character, regardless of the result.
Go Beavs!!

This team is not good....right now at least. We really miss scorers like Bruce.... Getting Thompson back will help, sure....but wow, it's apparent now how much we miss Payton.
And what's up with Eubanks still missing dunks...good lord. There's your two point loss. I see a bunch of guys out there like Dallen (a walk on) and some other German guy- Muller or some other.....wow. I really thought we would have a better team than this.

Well - not quite, at least Tinkle had a strategy the last 5 minutes, the kids just didn't execute. Robinson would send in 5 new gus on defense, then 5 new guys on offense, toward the end of the game. It was like watching a high school dance with no end in sight.

Well that was ugly and unfortunately probably not the last time this team will lay an egg this year. Really young team that needs to mature and adapt physically/mentally before conference play. Could be mostly growing pains this year before the rewards and possible return to the tourney come next year.

Double checked this morning, we really did lose that game last night. It wasn't the Crown Royal.
Hold a team to 28% shooting, out rebound them 51-38 and lose at home. That's actually really, really hard to do.
On to the next one...

Even good teams get 1 flush game a year. Yank the handle and don't even watch it go down. Ugly.

I could hardly believe how sloppy we were with the basketball last night. It was embarrassing. Communication was weak, and we seldom took a shot on the flow. It was just one game, but it was a stinker. Maybe I'll shut up about hole losing big at Baylor!
I feel that we desperately need Stevie, and Kone has got to get healthy for us to be an NIT team this year.

It was only one game but the glaring holes in this team rose to the top last night, embarrassing maybe isn't strong enough. I hope that the kids take a look at that game on tape and decide that's enough. Young or not, there is NO EXCUSE for that kind of ball security, none. I'm betting that is what they will be hearing a LOT of in the next couple weeks. Peeewwwww, horrible to watch. I think they will be much better soon, but that can't happen again, EVER!

Too many fringe at best D1 players on this roster...Ronnie, Big G, Manuel etc. Lamar is the *****...Without Stevie I am expecting a whooping against Nevada which is a Top 100 this team and features CR recruit Cam Oliver who can rebound like crazy and probably declares for the draft after this year.

I'll admit that I didn't watch the first half and only some of the second half so I didn't see the horrific play that you all saw. I'm glad for that. From the posts above, we would have lost to a high school team.
But, it's just one game. We are bringing in a bunch of new guys this year. I expect it will take some time to gel.
Here's my advice, because I know you want it. Don't panic. Don't freak out. Don't start slamming the young guys and newcomers quite yet.
