ISU was the Big Sky champ last year, and they had some talent, but we did not have a very good night.
Rebounding - lots of long rebounds, as they were mostly chucking it from beyond the arc. They were also getting to almost all of those long boards. Beavs got out rebounded 42 to 35.
Shooting - cold shooting night for lots of Beavers. KTMac was 2 for 8, Hanson was 3 for 11, Pivec was 2 for 6, Orum went 1 for 4 from the charity stripe. I can't decide if they were paying extra attention to MacWilliams, or if just "wasn't her night".
Freshman continued to get their feet wet - Pivec contributed in myriad ways, best of all leading all Beaver rebounders with 7. Tudor made good on the ESPN "elite level shooter" analysis by going 4/5 on threes with a quick release.
This was a close game in the first half, but the Beavers were not threatened and tamed the Bengals in the second half. Again, too early to make too much of this game, though I think we need to improve our free-throwing and rebounding.
(And ISU does *not* play down the road against the 'ucks, so we won't be able to get this thread locked by making comparisons there, though they do play Wisconsin and Colorado later this season).
Go Beavs!

I have not mentioned that I appreciate your contributions/insights on the two hoops boards. It is clear you have a passion for both OSU and basketball. I like how you combine positives and critical comments with the knowledge you possess. Thanks!

Go Beavs! Why even feel the need to make comparisons down the road? Not really concerned about a young team "down the road" with seven freshmen.

I just remember PureOrange in its heyday, and figure "the grass is always greener where you water it". And there are lots of other erudite folks on this board that keep me energized (which I greatly appreciate). I showed up as a second generation Beaver (father MS/PhD in Math, class of '71) at Oregon State in the Fall of 1987 for graduate school from a small NAIA school in Montana where taking some basketball classes and writing some analysis software for one coach Kelvin Sampson created the initial love of hoops, and then watching Ralph Miller/Gary Payton sealed the deal. Graduate school turned into gradual school (ten-yeared/tenured student jokes aside, I did eventually successfully defend a PhD in CS 11 years later), but this had the benefit of my girlfriend (now wife) and I being able to go on cheap dates thanks to a decade+ of student tickets. Though there were some years in there where I couldn't give our tickets away taped to $20 bills, and we sure didn't want to go :-). The rest, as they say, is history...... Go Beavs!

I have had to limit my TV/online sports consumption by having a personal rule that requires the Beavers to be one of the teams playing before I can watch, so you won't elicit any comparisons from me until they play us. I think some folks on the board do not appreciate the fact that some of the 'uck signees also considered us as a destination and bring up that fact (getting a thread locked recently), but teens (and I speak both from my own experience and that of having two now) can make silly, misguided choices - including that of attending a school other than Oregon State :-). Go Beavs!
