Obviously a ton of work to do, but I guess that's why we schedule games against the Lamars and UTSAs of the world early on. Some random thoughts:
- Tres is doing Tres things. Looks like it's his team as I hoped/expected. Liked in Game 1 that he quickly recognized the jumper wasn't working and started taking it to the hoop. Uncanny knack for getting to the line. Best of all, he looks healthy.
- Eubanks. Thrown that jump hook up a few times, shot looks better, footwork looks improved. I want to see him against some other legit bigs to see if he can stay on the court and provide some offense though. Still good for 1-2 silly head shaker fouls a game. Really need to clean that up.
- Jaquori - He's going to keep getting better, but really like what I see so far. Good handles, looks to be unselfish.
- Big G - he's the guy I was really hoping would step up in the offseason, but from the minutes it's clear he's been surpassed by Cheikh so far in the rotation. And Cheikh looks much improved. Showed great touch from the line and around the hoop in Game 1, brings more of a shot blocking element to the court than Big G, so there's that.... We will need all 3 of these guys.
- Scoring. I think Stevie being out (I'm assuming Wednesday as well) might be a bit of a blessing. We need to find some other scorers besides Tres. Who steps up? Dew? JMcL? Manuel and Muller have done some nice things in limited time. Haven't seen much out of Stacy to make me think he is the answer, but again - it's early.
- Dahlen getting legit rotation minutes is somewhat scary considering he was running over at Dixon a week ago, but he hasn't killed us, hit a few shots and hopefully we get Kone back soon.
- Hoping Lamar comes out in a zone Wednesday because we clearly need the work.
Go Beavs - let's get to 3-0.

Good observations.... Tres doing the Tres thing - hopefully at some point we will be accusing him of shouldering too much of the burden, but right now the second and third options are still emerging, I guess.
Eubanks looks much improved. He must rein in the cheap fouls because we really drop off at his position when he is sitting.
Jaquori will be starting soon.
I would like to see Muller get some more minutes, Manuel had that really nice 3, can he stop and pop like that regularly?
Big G is out there more, thanks to his weight loss and off season work. Just need him to be more efficient/effective when out there. CND ahead of him was not something I would have predicted. You are right, we will need all 3, and need more from 2 of those 3......
Hope Stevie can come back soon.
I also hope Dew just needed to get first-game jitters out of the way, he had a few easy shots that hopefully he finishes in later games. Dunks work too on drives right to the rim :-).
I sure hope Kone is on schedule as well.
Our biggest issue is rebounding (of course), and next is vocal, emphatic leadership. I was impressed to see some of that coming from Jaquori last game. Some of our bigs don't seem to grab that ball with the sense of urgency becoming of a 7 footer yet.....
Go Beavs!

Jaquori is a year away from flourishing in the rigors of the Pac 12. Like Stevie T last year he will struggle with getting out muscled until he gets some man muscles.

Don't like the fact TT is playing / needing to play 34.5 min/game this soon... needs to slowly get in game shape. Those metatarsal injuries have a high rate of reoccurring.
Also contrary to a couple posts... IMHO he's really forcing at times. At 41% most (besides our poor % from 3) of his misses are trying to do too much. We need at least three double digit scorers and one has to be primarily an inside threat.
If Stevie is just sitting from a "hot spot"... precursor to large blisters... he'll be back Wed. But, I've never seen a boot worn for hot spot? In fact an old school remedy of hydrocortisone and duct tape bandage works wonders! Lol
Drew is Drew. Until he eliminates the dumb fouls... I believe all but one so far was away from the action... he's a non factor in league play. We saw last year he could be a 14/10 type vs inferior competition, but disappeared in league. He HAS to settle down for us to improve.
Hoping Kone plays like he looks... has the enforcer mug and looks built for battle. Also was highly enthusiastic on the bench. Very into the games.
Anyone else think Jarmals younger, more athletic brother was on the floor when Dew entered? He was smooth, little light for the listed 220, too much finesse, but I have a feeling he'll be fine. Showed good communication and flashes of leadership.
JM and RS will have their moments and impact, prob a little inconsistent though. But, both are upgrades to lost perimeter players other than GPII.
Dont care what the nonleague record is as long as we get thru 100% healthy, Kone in rotation... as much as I like them... Tanner and Dahlen not needed except for mop up or a foul trouble situation.

I agree with baseba1111 about Tinkle forcing it at times. I kept hoping he would kick it out when he'd drive into what often seemed like double and triple teams.

Yep, wife commented on how he looked like he could be Jamal's younger brother.

[bpr] The thing is, how many times did he actually come up empty handed on those forced drives? Several of them he scored, a couple he scored and was fouled, and several more he was fouled and scored on free throws, there was one he missed both free throws. I don't recall many (I actually don't remember any but there had to be some) that ended up being turnovers... he's "forcing" with more authority this year it seems. He was largely responsible for UTSA's foul troubles, and that made a huge difference in the second half. I suspect his taking it to the hoop may be by design.

It's not that he came up empty handed, It worked well against UTSA. Maybe it was by design. I just hope it's not the design when competition gets tougher, because when the defense collapses on him I think he may come up empty handed more often. I like his aggressiveness but things will open up more for him if he trusts his teammates and kicks the ball out more. Maybe having Thompson out affected this some too.

You took the words right out of my mouth re: trusting teammates. I think that will come. I expect things to a little rough here and there for the next couple games as WT continues to work on a rotation and gets all the new pieces to mesh. I will say, for the most part, we look to be pretty unselfish as a group - lot of guys making the extra pass.

I'm super excited by Jacquori's scoring ability. I think he can replace, if not exceed GPII's offensive output.
And nail/hammer on the Dew/Jarmal comparison. Dew is slighter but quicker, hopefully he can exceed Jarmal's contribution.

Jacquori had 2 drives that he was fouled on and scored that made me think he's got a lot of moxie for all of 2 college games under his belt. He could be very fun to watch over the years.

This team will be fun to watch grow. Jacquori is fun and plays loose need some others to follow. 3 sophs looking good. Tinkle hasn't had to coach so hard. We are a year and a recruit away from special.

We are a year and a recruit away from special. Well said. I am also excited about *this* year given Jaquori's trajectory thus far, seeing some progress from the bigs, and hoping that Dew/Kone have a higher ceiling than Jarmal (and can help address our rebounding). That may all result in the NIT and not the NCAA, but I am intrigued to see if 9th in the Pac-12 is actually where we land (I doubt it). Go Beavs!

Predictions peg Beavs at 9th in conference. Seems a little low - 5th or 6th seems more likely. Good shot at 20 wins. Losing GP is a big hit - but the team does have talent. I do agree that next year is going to see us challenge for conference title - but I don't expect bottom dwelling this year.
