I think it is important to note that Sykes had the following offers out of HS: Arizona Colorado Michigan State UCLA multiple MWC teams. That is probably as impressive an offer list as any WR we've had here since Cooks and Wheaton. ESPN has him rated as a 79(same as they had Cooks). Importantly IMO, espn gives you what they feel is the player's strength and they had "hands". Liked that.

As of now we beat out MWC and Big Sky teams. As as of now most of last group of big time recruits did not make it to school. Not getting too excited about a JC WR and JC QB who are not accepted yet and do not have great stats vs JC kids.

You aren't required to be excited but what's the point of throwing wet blankets on those who want to be?

I don't control their thoughts or emotional ties. He's a "potential" recruit... not qualified... not played a D1 down. I personally get excited when they're actual a qualified student athlete and good enough to see the field. How you view recruits is your biz.

By your own words he could be a 5 star and you would not be excited when he commits and defer to be excited when he qualifies. By this same logic why do you sound so disappointed that he committed as he has not yet officially qualified. Wouldn't you defer the disappointment until he qualifies. Oh, wait that would require you to wait to criticize the coaching staff. You give so much fodder.

And *rankings are one of those "stats" made up for discussion purposes. All that matters is the end product not what his HS *ranking is by random "scout" who probably never saw him play. Most teams are made up of "supposedly" 3* or less type kids... I'll get excited when they actually contribute, not because they commit or have some arbitrary ranking... 5* or walk on.

All I have to say is that the ducks roster is full of players that supposedly were highly rated and recruited and to say the least that group of players suck and to top it off have quit. Maybe it is good to recruit players with a little chip on their shoulder.

Maybe it is good to recruit players with a little chip on their shoulder. Agree. I am hoping and optimistic that Mr. Sykes is just that kind of recruit.
